Simulation w/ SIMOSIM via OPC UA

SiforumUser Experienced Member Joined: 1/30/2007 Last visit: 7/31/2024 Posts: 87 Rating: (5)	If I run my Simotion program on my PC using SIMOSIM, and setup the OPC UA server, will the Unified RT simulation for my Unified HMI communicate to the SIMOSIM OPC UA server? I can't get it to work. I can browse the tags from the tag table, but when I run the simulation, it doesn't communicate.

However, I would like to point out that I am not familiar with SIMOTION or SIMOSIM. I have read that SIMOSIM requires PLCSIM Advanced V3.0 Update 2 or higher. PLCSIM Advanced is able to simulate OPC UA communication when using the 'PLCSIM Virtual Ethernet Adapter' interface. So if you know an option from SIMOSIM to select the adapter for simulation, please make sure that the correct adapter is used. Instead of doing some more tests with WinCC Unified I would recommend to use another tool to test OPC UA. A free OPC UA client that is mentioned in some examples on the Siemens support site is UaExpert®. I have been very satisfied with this tool so far. Kind regards Stefan

We have a Simotion controller and a Unified HMI, so we have hardware for testing. But, since there are three of us doing programming / testing, sometimes it would be nice to use SIMOSIM. I will check with Simotion technical support. Best regards
