Dears, Is it recommended to use Soft Starter (3RW) for Lifts or Elevators? Why yes or no? What if the lift uses hydraulic pistons? Thanks. Elias |

Hi, Two replies to your query:- 1) For Lift and Elevators: The answer is NO. Lift and Elevators needs speed control as it operates on all four quadrant operation of motor. In Lifts and Elevator, Motor has to work against gravity to lift certain object and with gravity while coming down with object. Feedback of motor speed to optimize and control the speed of motor...also makes these application not suitable for Soft-Starters. Lift and elevators are meant to operate with Drvies or Starters ( DOL) with mechanical breaks. 2) Hydraulic Piston: If you are using a Piston Compressor or Hydraulic pump you can use Softstarters. Look, wherever the spped control is required or a fixed speed other than supply frenqucy ( 50Hz) is required you cannt use softstarters. SoftStarters provides smooth start and stops to avoid mechnical jerks to the motors and also controls starting current. After the Soft-Start time ( ramp-up time) is over, Motor will run on its rated speed. No. of Start and Stop should also be consider before selecting a soft-starter. I am sharing a quick application info from Siemens 3RW guide to understand its workingbetter. Attachment3RW.pdf (338 Downloads) |
