Software redundancy and PC adapter

ShahinM Silver Member Joined: 11/8/2005 Last visit: 6/5/2024 Posts: 335 Rating: (3)	In a project,I have two CPU315-2DP and one ET-200M (two IM153-2) with using software redundancy.Two CPUs use MPI port for it.For programming of these two CPUs, I use PC-ADAPTER.Is it possible to program these two CPUs with a cable and PC-ADAPTER without changing the connection of PC-ADAPTER between two CPUs?I think,if I made a MPI cable with two female DB-9 for connecting two MPI port of CPUs and one Male DB-9 for connecting to PC-ADAPTER,I can program two CPUs.But I don't know ,how to make it and which pins should be connected between these connectors?

autom8 Regular Member Joined: 5/23/2008 Last visit: 10/22/2024 Posts: 8 Rating: (0)	Hello, I have worked with this redundancy setup many times; Use standard profibus cable and connectors to connect the MPI ports on each cpu. You can use a profibus connector with PG port on one or both cpu's depending on where you want to connect you PC-Adapter. In netpro assign both MPI ports different addresses and attach them to the same network. Also add a PG/PC station on that network. Always worked great for me. Cheers

In that method you can access both the CPU by connecting your PC/Adapter to one of the CPU. Be sure about the MPI address of the CPU's.While downloading total station,select the correct CPU (address) and download.Because, if you download the backup of CPU 1 to CPU2 then you will get system Fault. The reason for system fault will be same address on the both CPU's.In such case Remove the Linking Cable between both the CPU's and download one by one to avoid unnecessary tension.

Hello, I hope I understand your question. Since both your CPUs MPI ports are used for software redundancy, you can also download your program using the DP port. If you want to download the programfrom the MPI port, you can consider using profibus connector with PC/PG so that you can piggy-bag your programming cable on to the connector without removing.
