Step 7 v5.1 updating to v5.5 ?

1234536 Posts: 15 Rating: (0)	Hello I have a bundle of very old step 7 v.5.1 CDs and diskettes("authorization") from year 1998-2000. -> Now can I just install some updates online to get the newest version v5.5 ? -> Or do I have to buy the v5.5(2014) ? By the way why the old 1998: Simatic PG720P(Programming laptop) sells for 800-1600€ online(ebay) ? When I can buy a new modern PG for about 2000+€. + Can you recommend how to buy a new CMOS-battery for it ? It has a weird connector (looks like 2-pin molex or something) and CR 1/2 AA 3.6V battery.(W79084-E1003-B1) Update: I know connector is "JST XH-style female" but what battery is best for capacity mah ?

Step 7 Upgrade But it is not recommended to run it on a 15-year-old system. It is not necessary to have a Siemens- Field-PG to run Step7 and Additional SW. Have a look in the link to see the executable operating systems. So better buy a new notebook with enough RAM, not the smallest CPU and the necessary interfaces. Then install the new Step7-SW (and have a look in the read-me-files before) hope this helps regards

(1998) Then I have: Step 7 backup CD PG720P Step mini Diskette Step 7 authorization Diskette PG720P settings Diskette etc... Why do Siemens have so many CDs and diskettes ? What does each one do ? I probably can install the PG720P old software(inside of the machine) to more than one computer ? But can I install the online updated(if I plan to upgrade it online) software to multiple computer ? Windows 95 hasn't got any secured internet authentication like new Windows 7< softwares... - Is it recommended to upgrade the program ? How can I switch laptop licenses ? Confusing ?

Confusing ? hi, You can not update/upgrade to Step7 5.5 whit windows 95. It is not working. Step 7 Upgrade SIMATIC S7, STEP7 V5.5 UPGRADE, (V3.X ... V5.4 TO V5.5), FLOATING LICENSE FOR 1 USER, E-SW, SW AND DOCU. ON DVD, LICENSE KEY ON USB STICK, CLASS A, 5 LANGUAGES (GE,EN,FR,IT,SP), EXECUTABLE UNDER WINXPPROF, WINDOWS 7 ULTIMATE, WINDOWS 7 PROFESSIONAL REFERENCE-HW: S7-300/400, C7 If I understand the translation right, a One-Off-License is a License you can only use on one system. Authorization disc should be the license on it. The other are backup-discs for repairing the already installed SW, I think. Maybe you can install the SW to more than one computer, but it would only work on those devices, that have a license. The licenses are not for the laptop. They are for the SW on it. For the handling with the licenses you need a program for. Nowadays it is the Authorisation License Manager(ALM). When your PG720P was uptodate there where other programms like Authors or AuthorsW(Link). But they should be already installed with the Step7-SW hope this helps, regards,

You can order the DVD and a upgrade licence, but you must pay for it! mops04 have allready post the Link with the order number of the Licence and the DVD. the cost you must deal out with SIEMENS, each customer pay a other price

Before jumping into to much detail.. first establish that you actually have the license. It might be sitting on a forgotten PC somewhere or has already been upgraded by someone long ago. Verify first that you have the license - the authorization disk should have some data. The authorization software can also be used to check. (You do have a floppy drive, right?) The worth of new software is 100% dependant on what you intend to do with it. Note that you cannot update the hardware list for that version you have. But if you have an old PLC that works with that software.. then you can get to know the software first before jumping to the new. Note the current generation software is called "TIA Portal" where one component is called "Step7" now at version 13. TIA Portal in BASIC license has the ability to program the S7-1200 PLC and "Basic" HMIs... Step7 V5.x cannot program HMIs. w

(I have all the boxes, CDs and Disks) I have "Software product sheet": with Hologram(Siemens official product) Package name: xxxxxxxxxx Order No: xxxxxxxxxxx ID-No.: PGxxxxxxx Hardware product: A + Authorization Diskette(Yellow) PG720P has floppy disk+CD-player Price for the Laptop+Siemens software ? If I would sell it for maximum profit what would you expect to get from it ? (Ebay price: is 800-2000€) http://www.ebay.com/sch/i.html?_from=R40&_sacat=0&_nkw=pg720P&_sop=15 Some ebay auction price was 150 € (started from 0 €) You can get from a normal good conditioned laptop around 40-90 euros.(Like: IBM thinkpad, Dell Precision, and such home notebooks,...)

(I have all the boxes, CDs and Disks) start the PG , then start the licence manager SW (AuthorsW oder Automation Licence Manager) show on the local drives which licence is installed Then insert the Floppy disk in the Drive and check if a licence is on the floppy Proces: If you find a people wo sells then you can get 2000€ but i think this is a wish not more. a normal good conditioned laptop you will never get for 40-90 €, never ever!
