Step 7 v5.5 to TIA v12 migration problem

Hello,

which PLC is in the V5.5 Project and which FW Version?
In the directory of the TIA Project is a directory log, here should be a XML file which logs the Mogration process, can you see at which point the migration crashes?

Have you V12 or V12 SP1, and installed all available Updates?

Dear experts

 I am trying to migrate a Step 7 v 5.5 PLC program to TIA Step 7 v12.

Please find jpeg below of the problem the TIA software encounters everytime at 51%.

 My question is, what are possible causes of this problem and what possible solutions can I try?

 

I am trying to create a HMI using a comfort panel for a PLC program developed in Step 7 v5.5. The HMI panel is not supported by WINCC flex. I would like to have some sort of integration between the Step 7 v 5.5 program and the HMI I am developing in WinCC v12. This is to enable me to use the tags/DB's from the PLC program in my HMI. The HMI and PLC will be connected over Ethernet.

Andrew - while you wait for an expert's opinion, here is my opinion..

Do you have a licensed version of STEP7 V5.5 installed on the computer where you are trying to make the converting process with TIA12? Please check what are all the requirements you need to convert a PLC program.

Also.. Consider that you do not have to convert the PLC program to make a HMI program.There are 3 options..

1. If you already have an old HMI program (not too old), you can have TIA12 migrate the HMI project.

2. You can reduce the STEP V5.5 to only a shell of a program.. only having the DBs and M-flags that you need to link to the HMI.

3. Make a loose standing HMI project. You have to type in all the variables and create the link to the PLC using a manual process.

If you need help in creating a new HMI project when you do not have the PLC program in the same project.. than please try the  Product Conferences > Visualization > SIMATIC WinCC (TIA Portal) conference.

The PLC in the v5.5 project is:

Name: CPU315-2PN-DP

Order No. 6ES7 315-2EH14-0AB0/v3.2

The only XML files in the TIA Project directory is under \System\PEData\Meta\.

I believe it crashes  very early in the migration process since the IM, Logs, TMP and Userfiles folders are empty.

I have V12 with no updates. Should I install SP1? Where would I find SP1?

A loose standing HMI project is not desirable as the PLC program has a lot of variables and a manual process would take a long time and increase the possibility of making a mistake leading to increased commissioning time.

Maybe someone can still have another idea..
just call me the guy with alternative ideas.
Before I continue - make sure you have the newest TIA updates.

The idea is not painless - it relies on you modifying the original program inside Step7 V5.5. My assumption is that you do not need a functional program.

After some thought, I think it will not be possible to make program with only DBs, but you can make get to something close to it. Before you start.. make sure you save the project as a new project.

Simply put..
delete all program content (LAD / STL / SCL / GRAPH / ..)
nothing in any code block (OBxxx / FCxxx / FBxxx).

Make VERY sure that there is no code block that is password protected. This holds true for Siemens' libraries also. Delete any code block that is password protected that you do not need - else unlock it.  With no block calls, there should be no problem if some code blocks are deleted.

Check the hardware configuration and make sure that only the essential setup is in place. Remove stuff not needed (ex. Profibus links).

Verify (compile) the project. Make sure the project is stored.

Now.. take this down-sized version project and try to have TIA12 convert it. Possibly the reason why you had an issue, will be removed.

See if this will work for you as a "plan B".

Is it possible to create a TIA HMI project
where you use the PLC program information from STEP7 V5.5,
but without making a project convert to TIA?

In other words.. use WinCC (TIA Portal) as if WinCC Flexible.

I have looked at this link before, but experienced some problems.

The Device Proxy PLC is not available in V12, only V13.

The TagConverter looked like the perfect solution for my application, but I could not find the installation online. From this pdf document,

on p40 there is a link to download the TagConverter software, but the link sends me to a page that says the desired entry could not be found.

Source export/import does not work properly, and it seems like this is not possible for instance DB.

It seems like the only solution left is project migration...

How can I update my Step 7 V12?

Where do I find an update option from the TIA portal or a link to update to V12 sp1?
