Step7 Dynamic configuration

I will make my question through this example:

suppose I have two machines, A and B, which on a high level perspective do exactly the same thing, for example make pasta.

Now, let's say that these machines are identical (same PLC, IO cards, etc.) apart for one hw module. Machine A has part X while machine B has Y.

To make it simple, let's say that both X and Y are controlled by a certain number of digital inputs and digital outputs.

Last feature is that, given lack of space, both X and Y are connected to the same physical input and output slots (but remember that the control sw is totally different, so for example a given output can control a relay on A and a led on B).

Now given that A and B are almost they same, I would like to have a unique sw handling both machines. It would be nice to "virtualize" the physical IO cards depending on the sw to control (please look at the attached picture), that is by setting a flag (or something similar - you can tell me what) the physical input card would be, for example, associated to I100.0 -  .... - I100.7 in machine A, while downloading the sw on machine B that same card would have addresses I200.0- ... - I200.7. On top of these settings, the control sw of interest (either for A or B) would control the specific part

Is it possible to do that in S7?

thanks for the link. I need the equivalent of what you posted in the old Step7 (e.g. version 5.5) and not TIA. Is there anything similar? In the meanwhile I will keep looking but so far I had no luck...

I am going through the document 

At pag.23 the configuration requires to set the flag option handling for the power unit (please see attached picture, section 1,  "Guide to option handling"). The document is from 2011 and at that time my PM unit (6ES7138-4CA01-0AA0) was not listed as one supporting this option.

However if I look at the datasheet it does support option handling (please see attached picture, section 2, "Datasheet 6ES7138-4CA01-0AA0" )

Unfortunately on my S7-Classic (version 5.4.5.3) the option handling checkbox is disabled (please see attached picture, section 3, "Option for Datasheet 6ES7138-4CA01-0AA0 on S7-Classic).

I can't find neither a firmware upgrade of the card nor, when I am online with simatic, can I see the firmware version.

Is there a way to get through it?

the documentation and projects was made with Step7 V5.5, so you should update the Step7 Installation to use all functionality!

I can't use the examples, but I can try to do that on my own given the following requirement in the guide:

If I look at my ET200S (6es7 151-1BA02-0AB0), the hardware version is 2 while the firmware is V2.2.1.

Here I can just download version 1.8:

Can I find a newer version that hopefully enables the option handling for the PM-E module?

So if you use the Powermodule 6ES7138-4CA01-0AA0 the option handling is not supported.

I do not want to disturb the discussion. Anyways I have comment to make:

If you can not use the examples due to V5.4 compatibilty issues, why not use the "oldschool" way like Activate/deactivate the DP slave's based on the requirement. See System Software for S7-300/400 System and Standard Functions Volume 1 and Volume 2 manual under chapter "16.3 Deactivating and Activating DP Slaves/PROFINET IO Devices with SFC 12 "D_ACT_DP"".
