Smurf Silver Member Joined: 9/28/2005 Last visit: 10/24/2024 Posts: 414 Rating: (28)	Captive Engineer Hello, Folks. 8months ago, TIA Portal (aka Step 7 Basic, V10.5 SP2) was installed on my PC, Dell M6400 OS: Windows XP Professional, SP3 Dual Core 2.66 GHz CPU 3.48 GB of RAM 160 GB HD Step 7, Simatic Manager, WinCC Flex '08, Simotion, and Micro Win are also installed along with the usual suspects for Office software, etc. Today, I opened up TIA Portal to do some experimentation with an S7-1200, but I could not do very much without the software crashing. When it falls over, a very informative dialog box appears which reads: --------------------- The application has encountered a problem and needs to close. Would you like to restart the application? --------------------- And then I have the corresponding buttons available at the bottom of this popup box. I can get this crash to occur without doing much at all. Once I have selected the project view and opened some window such as the Devices and Networks page, an HMI visualization screen, or even simply the Diagnostics tab along the bottom of the application's display, I need only let my mouse hover for a few seconds over some interactive content (pushbutton, column header, basic objects visualization toolbox, etc.) on any of the mentioned windows. I don't have to even click on the object. After 4 or 5 seconds, the cursor briefly switches from the usual pointer arrow to a pointer-hourglass cursor, and then back again. Once this happens, the popup display appears, and I can no longer interact with the software until I restart it. For whatever it may be worth, I've not yet seen this happen whilst working with items listed in the project tree. I called tech support earlier today, and the individual with whom I spoke suggested that I should probably uninstall and then reinstall TIA Portal. This I did, but there is no change in the behaviour of the application. Has anyone seen this problem, and, more importantly, is there a solution that may be recommended? The 'crash button' is "project view". As long as I am not trying to enter Project view the system works... Still wondering how to program.. Right! Let's have a support request. If it sugest to reinstal the software, reinstal it AND give a feed back that doesn't work. If you have local support, ask hin to scalete to Germany. If it talk from Germany ask him to scalete to developer. Important: Don't let the SR be closed before to find a solution. 2 - If you don't want to format the PC and starts again from zero, (no body wants), try to see how the software works in a virtual machine, just with Windows and the TIA. It is not offitially supported but maybe it could give him an idea if the problem stay on the machine, on the window or in the software.

Latest news is that Siemens Germany is working on the case. They have the full list of installed programs and they can have any information I can provide. I'll keep you posted in this thread. === What I discovered more: * Closing the TIA Portal V11 (with update 1) causes a crash. * Importing a STEP7 V5.5 project causes a crash

I also discovered that this happens for Professional and Basic! Well till so far I managed to uninstall STEP7 V11 PROFESSIONAL completely at last! On one computer STEP7 V11 BASIC refused to install after doing a PROFESSIONAL uninstall, it seemed that the uninstall was not so complete as the name says. I discovered an registry entry that caused the BASIC install problem, see attachment. After removing this entry the BASIC install was ended normally, but... STEP7 V11 BASIC was crashing. After a new start, installation of update 1 and another complete restart gave a situation to work with. And still STEP7 V11 BASIC crashes now and then. The old STEP7 days are back again? The crash always happens if the installation of the TIA Portal software failed. Easy to overlook cause the software only displays a small red icon after installation but says it completed the installation. The problem lies in the S7DOS system, responsible for the online access of the Siemens software. As far as we know there is no solution for it yet other the formatting your harddrive and reinstall Windows and all software.

In a zip-file (>100MB) all the data is send to Siemens for further investigation. Last week STEP7 V11 Basic with update 1 was quite stable. Now, thanks to you all, I downloaded and installed Update 2, which was not yet available on the service and support site in English. I'll keep you posted. Please if you have also these problemsplease start alsoa ServiceRequst, the more Siemens can investigate the quicker a solution is found.

I was a little too enthousiastic with installing TIA Portal V11 Professional over TIA Portal V11 Basic incl. Update 2. That means I installed first TIA Portal V11 Professional and directly on top of it Update 2. And without using the personal registry patch all of a sudden it worked. According to Siemens it is by accident, because the release notes make no notice about fixing these problem. Maybe Update 2 is the solution, but it is not officially said.... Good luck

Till I had WinCC V11 Advanced SP1 installed. MyMP277 can only be programmed via the MPI-port, it communicates allright with the different CPU's via ethernet... That was better in WinCC flexible... And now all of a sudden compiling the MP277 part of the project causes a crash. Removing, installing, removing, installing... Still a crash as soon as compiling starts. The programming it self is very nice. Too bad you can't have "variablename.2" as bit 2 of the e.g. word "variablename". Now I have to copy this to the flagwords and use these bits. As soon as I have time to start a support request...........

First I was looking for an WinCC like "delete temporary files" are so... Maybe Siemens is working on a tool like "repair project", which would be very nice. At least I thenmade a copy of the MP277 part in the same project and compiled that and the TIA Portal did not crash! So I deleted the original MP277 part, renamed the copy to its original name and connected the panel to the CPUs (S7-1200 and Compactlogix L32E). And still no crash!! Let's wait what tomorrow brings...

In the Control Panel I selected S7-ethernet instead of ethernet. The remote control option is selectable on the MP277, but does not work. Now my MP277 says something about that Runtime refuses to start. So I tried an OS Update via ethernet... Not working, Profibus 12MB... Not working. Profibus 1.5MB... At least it is better/faster than MPI. Is it common that the program is very slow? Too bad you cannot do a download for the HMI and keep programming the PLC at the same time. Annoying is the way you select the way of programming the device (programming port). In Extended download to device you cannot select the type of interface before the software tries to connect to the device. Lost oftime is lost... Strange... Shooting another project in the MP277 causes no faults. Should the MP277 part of the project be corrupted again? Well.. Ithink this is enough for the moment.

After analyzing the installation logfiles(the setup is very well logged!) i found the problem. The installation of S7DOS checks if there is a old version on the pc. If so, S7DOS is first uninstalled before installing the new version. Now it looks that the uninstallation is failed. When i want to uninstalled it by myself i get the message: "It is impossible to uninstall a product that is not installed" or somethins similar. I looks like the system is first telling there is a old installation, but while it is uninstalling the system tells there is no old installation. The solution: I deleted the registery entry thats saying that S7DOS is installed. Now is setup installing S7DOS without problems. The registery entry is: "HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Siemens\Shared Tools\S7DOS" ALWAYS MAKE A BACKUP BEFORE DELETING ANYTHING!!! PLEASE WATCH OUT! This solution is not from siemens. I cannot guarantee that this solution always work. It's Possible it's gives other problems, but for me it is a good working solution. Please ask if everyone has some questions about this problem.

TIA used up to 70% of my memory.. thats why its crashes before we can even open the project coz it need more memory to run. simply by upgrading my laptop RAM, (from 2GB to 8GB) TIA V11 work fine now.. it works for me, so try that in ur laptop.. thanks Dhiva ..

Me thinks its something to do with Step7 V5.5 legacy updates that is corrupting Portal, Portal is not liking some of the settings STep 7has set up on my old laptop. I know on here that some say perform a clean re-bbot but at moment that is not acceptable have to much data on old laptop fear of loosing. I'm surpprised Siemens has't found a patch for this probelm yet!!!!

After more then 24 hours in front of 3 computers, installing, re-installing, beating my head in the keyboard and formating the pc I encoutered a solution (probably is not a solution for everyone, but don´t cost nothing to try!). Copy the arquives of CD to a folder in C:\ and call the instalation by the HD, not by the CD. It work to me! Good luck for who is thinking to cut the pulses!

Have tried SP1, SP2 andupdate 5.I have installed from DVD, from local HD and from usb HD. Always the install reports a problem but no details. I have tried the S7Dos fix. The program runs but crashes with the usual unhelpful message. I have raised a support request, germany have been involved. They have stated that it cannot be installed on a domain based machine and yet we have a new domain based machine that it is ok on. I have successfully installed on a virtual XP machine and it runs fine but cannot connect to a KP900. I have used it on an old XP machine for 3 days before the message popped up. Given the price we pay for the software we should send them a bill. Very frustrated.

Mike.Mc Posts: 46 Rating: (8)	I have wrestled with that for 3 years. It never goes away. My solution is to create a new project and copy, (drag and drop), your CPUs and HMIs into the new project. Sometimes they do not drag over. I suspect those devices are the ones with the problems. Then create a new device, (always a CPU), and copy OBs, DBs, tags etc. into the new device. That cleans it up and TIA Portal works great until it happens again...

safe_acid Posts: 1 Rating: (0)	I have a similar issue with VMware Fusion on my Mac mini M2. The solution for me is to install the original TIA 17 portal and then upgrade it to version 6.
