Hello every one ! I actually work on V18. Since V18 was released, we made 3 machines. One is in assembly phase and soon, will be commisioning. We are 4 at automation office at my compagny. 4 machines in 2 years is a lot for us. We are currently asking ourselves whether we are moving to V19. My problem is I need V13, V15.1, V16, V17 and V18. That's because our customer need service and sometimes software modification. So, what do you think of V19 ? Is UX better ? Easier ? Faster ? Is startdrive V19 faster ? When you go online with CPU with firmware 3.X , is it faster ? I ask this question because with "big" project with lot of positionning TO and lot of profisafe, i have some trouble when I click on "Go online". CPU stops at this point with V18. Thanks in advance ! |

v19 need more power from the PC it's running on, more memory also. If you need tu use the new functionalities of the new firmawares and need the speed of the new CPU processing speed, then you need to use v19. Our company has made several v19 projects already. |

Hi ClemClemClem, User experience and performance are some of the characteristics that I do not expect to change much between different versions of TIA Portal. Of course, if you ask a Siemens sales rep, they will tell you that performance has been improved. And that may be true, but you will run into situations where you will not be happy with the performance. So for me, that would not be the key facts for buying an upgrade. It's the new features that make me want to upgrade. But it also depends on your needs. To use the new PLC features, you will most likely need a new PLC, which is not an option for a machine that has already been built. For the HMI, an upgrade only makes sense if you are using WinCC Unified. WinCC Comfort/Advanced is frozen at V17, which means that you will not benefit from a V19 version there. Also for Startdrive, the new features are mostly to fulfill some special use cases that are not widely used, but need to be included in Startdrive to reach a state where the classic STARTER is no longer needed. Price will also be an important factor in your decision. Since Siemens plans to release a new version each year, a Software Update Service subscription will be less expensive than buying each upgrade. Using TIA Portal Cloud may also be an interesting alternative as it allows you to use different versions of TIA Portal without any installation conflicts on your computer. Unfortunately, it will only support TIA Portal V14 and higher, not V13. Regarding your problems going online with your PLC, I would expect the stops not to be observable with the new improved V3.x PLCs because they have much more power for communication. However, it should be possible to configure an older PLC so that the error does not occur. This can be done by configuring the maximum cycle time and the cycle load due to communication. Kind regards |

Actually, I do really hope that developers of TiA portal in Siemens can take more care about user experience in general. |

A Siemens technicien helped me on this problem. It was the setting "Communication load". It was at 50%. I put 20% and it solves the problem ! |

I really appreciate your post. They did not happen to mention when 50% would be more correct? I mention it because for 14 years, we have been using 30-50% for comm load in the hardware configuration on s7-1200's and lately with s7-1500's. Thanks again for posting back your solution. Glad you got it worked out!

Honestly, I am not a fan of TIA19 Unified at this point. For similar reasons you mention. I had, working together on my laptop, Scout Classic, Scout 5.4.3, TIA 14, 15, 17 and 18 It has been nothing but a nightmare of installing, uninstalling, and reinstalling software trying to maintain compatibility with client projects, while also trying to move forward with Unified. |
