granted, I didn't test it, but in theory the maximum graph length is about 2,5 month.
(999 = max. trend samples, max. cycle time of 6553 s = 75d, 18h, 27min, 27s)

This doesn't seem too unreasonable to me.

About your second concern:

The "Time interval (s)" is the length of your visible time axis you see as "100%", so the period you see without zooming on/out. This has nothing to do with how long your trend line is.

Example A1:
Time interval = 3600 --> visible period is 1 hour
So if your trend is 10 hours long you have to click back/forth or zoom out to see more of it.

Example A2:
Time interval = 28800 --> visible period is 8 hours

The "Increment" tells you how many markers there are on your time axis. It's simply to help you see better. Like on a ruler. So you can decide how you want to see your time scale divided, for example in ten part per minute, so every 10 seconds, or maybe just the middle of every minute.
A reasonable value is highly dependent on the value set for the time interval. Think of the increment as a value in seconds, too.

Example B1:
Time interval = 3600s, Increment = 60 (s) --> a divider every minute (3600s/60s = 60 dividers)
--> ok

Example B2:
Time interval = 3600s, Increment = 900(s) --> a divider every 15 minutes (3600/900s = 4 dividers)
--> too wide, not helpful

Example B3:
Time interval = 28800s, Increment = 60 (s) --> a divider every minute (28800s/60s = 480 dividers)
--> too narrow, can't see s**t

Example B4:
Time interval = 28800s, Increment = 900 (s) --> a divider every 15 minutes (28800s/900s = 32 dividers)
--> ok

Hi, Is there a way of monitoring this data or record this data, say for a month without increasing the cycle time... eg, keeping the cycle time fixed at 5 minutes, i need to record this graph for 1 or 2 months... How to do this.... and also somehow display this graph on a PC... is there any specialized software to do this... Thanks...

This FAQ gives you an Excel file wich has a macro that uses .csv/.txt files as sources and displays the values in a graph. It has a limit for the entry number but that's due to a limitation of Excel. I trield with 25000 entries and it was fine. So with 12entries/1h*24h/d*2*30d =17280entries you should be fine.

My dear co-engineer... So it comes with a cost, uh... problem is, my company doesnt want to spend money, but they need all features at low cost... I don't think they are going to buy me comfort panel and advanced software to do this... So the only way to do this with basic panels is to increase the cycle time... right ???... what about that historical data logging feature.... can you please send a link, how to use that excel file and export to a usb stick...

Hello JAC2016,

open "Historical data" in the project tree and click on your data log under "Data logs" (upper middle window part).

Go to "Properties >Properties > General > Storage Location".

Here you can insert the path to the folder on your USB stick.

(Don't forget to increase the size of "Data records per log". If you have enough space an the stick the max value is 500000).

The description on how to use the Excel file is the whole table 01 on the FAQ page:

• Save Excel file on PC (local) and the txt logging file in the same folder.
• Open it an cklick "No" the first time.
• Write the name of the txt logging file into tha table and put a "1" in the cloumn in front
• Click described button. Then cklick yes.
• Wait.
• Look at graph.

You can't copy a file into which you are still logging. So you could to use the system function "StopLogging". At the same you can use "StartLogging and select another log. This way you can create a loop of two or more logs and don't loose any data.

If SCAN time is 36secs meaning the value of trend within 36secs can only be display or the last value after 36sec?

Hello Rafael2013,

if by "SCAN time" you mean the "Cyclic" setting, which is shown in rdoliveiras screenshot in the 9th post and which I called "cycle time" in the examples, then the anwer is the latter: you get one value every 36 seconds. It doesn't matter if the value is changing during these 36 seconds it's always the last value of the one cycle period.

If you mean you are only intersted in a "Time interval" of 36 seconds and you want to see as many values in this period as possible, then the cycle time would be 0.1 seconds, because that's the lowest cycle time possible. So in 36 seconds you can have a maximum of 360 values.

You can show us a screenshot of your "SCAN time" setting, if you're not sure yet.

the trend sample only tells you how long the line shown in the trend control will be.

• If you show one sample each 0,1s, then your trend line will be 99,9 s long (=999*0,1s) .
• If you show one sample each 36s, then your trend line will be 9h and 59min long
  (= 35964 s = 999*36s).

So yes - if you want to show a 10 hour long trend line, then your cycle time is 36s.

You can add another, shorter trend line with a smaller sample time, if you want to see more details (like zooming in).

For example, a second trend line of the same tag with a sample time of 3,6s will show you the values of the last of the 10 hours with ten times the resolution of the first trend line. 
(If you use both trend lines on the same scale then the second line is just a tenth of the first one in length. Use the scale of the other side, or you have to zoom in to be able to see the difference between the lines during the last hour. You can go back on the time axis of course, it's just about the values in time you can see at once.)
