TIP: Download without re-initialization.

Denilson Pegaia Platinum Expert Joined: 9/23/2005 Last visit: 12/5/2023 Posts: 4281 Rating: (1379)	Hi, The manual “SIMATIC S7-1500 Structure and Use of the CPU Memory” (http://support.automation.siemens.com/BR/view/en/59193101) gives a complete information about memories and retentivity. TIPs: General Rules E.g. it is possible to perform the follow changes without affecting the actual values of tags that have already been loaded: - Name change - Comment change - Addition of new tags - Deletion of tags - Change of retentivity settings for Bit memories, times, and counters Re-initialization confirmation If some change was done that leaves to reinitialize a DB, by downloading a message will be showed:”The data block will be re-initialized with their start values”. So, no automatic re-initialization will be performed without programmer’s acknowledge. Restart behavior Non retentive variables are always re-initialize when CPU comes from STOP to RUN. DB without special attribute: For DB without special attribute (see below) it is possible to perform the follow changes without affecting the actual values of tags that have already been loaded: - Comment change - Start value change DB with special attribute ("Download without reinitialization"): The attribute is set click in the button "Download without reinitialization” by editing the DB (PLC with green rectangle and a pencil icon). With this attribute, it is possible to perform the follow changes without affecting the actual values of tags that have already been loaded: - Start value change - Comment change - Addition of new tags To perform other changes, these special attribute must be unchecked, and so, a re-initialization will be performed. In the block attributes (right mouse click, properties) you can set the quantity of bytes for these “new tags” (retentive and non retentive). The default value is 100 for non retentive and 0 for retentive. If the defined value is exceed, a compilation error will occur by the block download.

fuglytwatapuss Posts: 5 Rating: (0)	I found I was unable to remove entries from a Function block interface (i.e. IEC Timers). I could add new static variables but upon downloading they greyed out and I could not remove or modify them. Solution (from Siemens support) was to click on the pencil Icon "download with initialization". This worked for me.

I only found how to activate it in the manuals, but this does not clear all my questions. 1. How much bytes should you select? Is this reserve for new values only? Or is it also needed for values that are already declared. ExampIe: I have a dynamic parameter datablock with 10 real values that need te be retained. How much reserve do I forsee? 20 bytes for 5 new reals in the future, or 50 bytes for the declared reals. 2. If you activate it within a (standard) Function Block, and call this standard FB as a multi-instance in another FB. Do you need to activate the reserve also in de call FB?

Hi the concept of the "Donwload without re-initialization" is based not in "what do you have" but else in his "prevision" of "how much i will expand the block in the future". So for the question 1, the answer is: it is depending of how much changes you will make in the future For the question 2, the answer is: the configuration of the "children" is not automatically imported by the "parent", that means, you need to set it manually.
