TP177 Communication Problems

Daniel..Nilsson Posts: 32 Rating: (0)	Hey, I really hope someone here could help me with my problem. Lets take it from the beginning. First i had WinCC Flexible 2007 installed on my computer, i connected a TP177A panel to it with the USB->MPI-Cable. Then i got the fault that the version on the panel was higher then the version on the PC. Then i read in this forum that I just had to downgrade the panel. So I did. Then I could transfer my project, so long so good. But when i had made some changes and tried to download again then it did'nt work, I got the fault that I should check the connection setting,cables ports etc. I had'nt changed anything but some objects in one screen. Then I upgraded my version to WinCC Flexible 2008 SP1 to try that way, but i got the same fault message. Then i tried to download to a new TP177A panel and that worked. So connected it to the Profibus network there it should be. But than it didn't work. So i connected it with the USB->MPI-cable again. And now that didn't work either. Just got the connection fault message. Is this panel some kind of one-shot panel? Or what am I doing wrong? Could someone please help me.

fritz Diamond Member Joined: 10/7/2005 Last visit: 11/4/2024 Posts: 3025 Rating: (1055)	Hello Daniel your problem is most likely caused by the fact that the first download of your flex project to the Panel (the one that works) changes the settings for the MPI/DP transfer (I presume you use DP) and your USB MPI/DP adaptor is set to MPI. Here is an excerpt from the TP manual (which you can download from here): Transfer mode using MPI / PROFIBUS DP The bus parameters for MPI / PROFIBUS DP transfer, e.g. the MPI / PROFIBUS DP address of the HMI device, will be read from the project currently loaded on the HMI device. You can change the settings for MPI / PROFIBUS DP transfer. To do this, you must first end the project and then change the settings on the HMI device. Then return to transfer mode. The HMI device uses the new MPI / PROFIBUS DP settings until you transfer another project to it. During the transfer of a project to the HMI device, the MPI / PROFIBUS DP settings will be overwritten with the values from the transferred project. You can thus edit the MPI / DP settings for the TP 177A irrespective of the project settings. Anyway, have a look through the manual which has more useful info on connecting anddownloading. Because before i downloaded the first project to the panel I set the MPI/DP adress to 6 and the speed 1500 kbit/s. After I had transferred the project the settings where the same but it didn't work, or isn't it thoose settings you mean? I really can't get what's wrong.

fritz Diamond Member Joined: 10/7/2005 Last visit: 11/4/2024 Posts: 3025 Rating: (1055)	Hello Daniel don't you hate when you think you have the "perfect" answer that explains what's wrong only to find out that it is probably something else? Anyway, have a look at the Control Panel of your TP177A. You'll find an "MPI/DP settings" icon (this handlesthe interface as far PLCcommunication is concerned and will be overwititen by your flex application settings) as well as a "Tranfer Settings" icon (this handles how you can download to the Panel and will be "reset" by an OS upgrade). Check the settings in both andmake espacially sure that the 2nd channel in the "Tranfer Settings"is enabled and set up for your download needs(e.g. MPI, DP, USB or Etehrnet for more powerful panels) and see also chapter 6.1 of the previous listed TP177 manual for more on this. I'll keep my fingers crossed that this helps in fixing the problem.

The second channel is enabled, but the only thing i can select for that channel is MPI, is that how it is supposed to be? Really hope you or someone else have some answer to myproblem.

But if i press the text where it says MPI, you can see it in the picture below on the left. I get a new window, where the only alternative is MPI, see picture on the right. I know its a bad bad picture, hope you can see what I mean. I dont think this is the problem, but anyway. Attachment DSC00169.JPG (607 Downloads)

(properties of Profibus, please check if Highest station address is the same on the whole network) Best regards, Wizard Thanks for all the answers, I'm really grateful for all this. I think i have tried everything, I'm so desperate right now. My support-request is in Germany right now, really hope they call me soon. I have tried both, transferring while the runtime is running and transferring in transfer mode. The highest station address for profibus is set to 10 in the whole system. But I should still be able to transfer with my USB->MPI-cable if that was the problem.
