Trying to build image on the jan/rocko branch but getting error

Hi Jan,

I am trying to build my image on the jan/rocko branch, and I get following error that I can not resolve:

poky/meta/recipes-devtools/gcc/gcc_7.3.bb:do_compile failed with exit code '1'

I am building on a vmware, ubuntu 16.04 LTS. Have you encountered this in any way? I have solved other problems, but this one, I have no clue on how to investigate..

Edit:

There is also an error on:

poky/meta/recipes-devtools/binutils_2.29.1.bb:do_compile.

The error log is longer than anything else i`ve seen. Almost everything is "undefined reference to " something.

Split from Preview of Yocto 2.4 support (rocko).

I'm not aware of anyone having tried that with Ubuntu so far. It works fine on my SUSE 42.3, and also in the Debian 9-based kas container (trying the Docker build path might be worthwhile BTW).

OTOH, 16.04 is officially listed as "supported" by Yocto (https://www.yoctoproject.org/docs/2.4/ref-manual/ref-manual.html#detailed-supported-distros). Maybe it is an issue related to the vmware setup. Are you building over a shared folder or something like this, or is that build folder a normal Linux filesystem?
