UMC Installation Help

Hi All,

I'm trying to get the UMC up and running on my enigeering terminal. I'm not needing any Active Directory support, just looking for a central 'manual' user management area for several HMIs and a SCADA runtime instance.

I've been trying to follow the various installation guides/documents but keep coming up against various issues. This has been something I've been trying to do on and off for the last 6 months, but really need to get it in place now and hoping someone might be able to provide some assistance in getting it up and running.

So far I've managed to do the following:

1. Confirmed that the latest version of UMC is installed on the terminal v2.9
2. I've run the WinCC Unfified Configuration tool and set the UMC part
3. I've tried to run umconf as a elevated user I can set the domain.

However, when it gets to 'Service Account' and i provide the details for a user (I'm assuming that this is a 'new' user that is for the service of the UMC and not a user already in existence on the terminal), i get an 'Error cannot create a file when that file already exists'.

There doesn't appear to be much about this error code and i'm now at a bit of a loss. If i new what file it was trying to overwrite i'd try manually 'deleting' it.

anyone able to shed some light on this?

Maybe I would recommend opening a Service Request to the Siemens as they may know something about this error.

Thanks serendipity0 - I've been chatting with support about getting this working and whilst we're not fully working just yet, we have certainly made more progress that the issue i raised in this post.

For anyone coming along and experiencing the same issue, the trick was to run:

umconf -D

 which deletes the configuration files that already existed. Then when you run the:

umconf

 you can then follow the prompts.

It's not clear why the overwrite option wasn't working, but delete and start new seems to at least let you 'configure' the UMC server.
