Unable to load Sinumerik 810D/840Di/840D toolbox on Windows 7 laptop

JohnZatGE Posts: 4 Rating: (0)	I'm running Simatic S7, Step 7 V5.5 SP2 on my Windows 7 laptop. That appears to be working ok. I'm trying to load Sinumerik 810D/840Di/840D Toolbox version 06.05.02.00. When I run setup.exe on the Sinumerik Toolbox disk, I get an error window right after I hit "next" in the setup language box (I'm choosing English). The error box simply states "error" - with the only option for me to choose is "ok", and then the setup exits. (For reference, product code for the Sinumerik toolbox is 6FC5252-6AX21-5AG0) I am very much a novice with Siemens software, as I only use it rarely. My tech expert is in China - I'm in the U.S. So, hopefully someone here can answer afew questions: (1) Is this an issue where Sinumerik Toolbox just doesn't run under Windows 7? And if so, is there a different toolbox I should be trying to use? (2) Do I have a product mismatch between my versions of Simatic S7 and Sinumerik Toolbox? (3) Does anyone know who at Siemens in the U.S. I can contact to get help with this issue? I have a very difficult time determining where to go for support from the Siemens website. Thanks, John Z.

You can also run multiple virtual xp windows so even the Siemens software doesn't clash. i.e. I put S7 and wincc into different virtual windows. Pee

JohnZatGE Posts: 4 Rating: (0)	Thanks to all for the help so far. Windows VM is new to me, but I think I've got XP running under it correctly. I've got Step 7 and the Toolbox loaded within VM - and everything went in without error. So it all looks good so far. My CP 5711 is on loan to another site - and I need it to test whether all of this gives me the connectivity I need with an 840Di. I should have the CP 5711 back within a few days, then we'll see. I'm keeping my fingers crossed. Thanks again ... and I'll post back when I have more data ... especially if I get stuck again. John Z. P.S. - I do have a help request in with Siemens. A tech expert contacted me and I gave hime the info relative to my Windows 7 installation. That was 36 hours ago and I haven't heard anything since.

JohnZatGE Posts: 4 Rating: (0)	Success! It took me a little while to figure out how to get the CP 5711 to work with XP running under Windows VM, but I finally got the data I needed. Thanks again for everyone's assistance. Meanwhile, I have heard nothing new on my ticket with Siemens tech support. Thankfully I didn't rely on them to help. John Z.
