Using S7-400H at temperatures slightly below 0 degree Celsius

RKB Posts: 2 Rating: (0)	I need to install the S7-412-3H with S7-300 I/Os in an area which is close to 0 degree Celsius but with the enclosure, may be a little less during startup. Can it be used? What are the effects in case we decide to use it below 0 degree Celsius? How much is the tolerance for the modules? CE/UL or other markings do not matter for me. Fast response shall be highly appreciated!! Thanks.

Only Siemens support can tell you about performance of their electronics in very low temperature environment. According to this FAQ, ambient temperature may affect CPU clock. At first I was going to suggest SIPLUS modules but I found that eventhough SIPLUS S7-300 modules can work in range of -40 to 60 C, you would be still facing the same problem with SIPLUS S7-400 modules that work only from 0 to 60 degrees. You can find more data about S7-300 modules in this manual. Also S7-400 module data will be helpful. Best regards. H-H

RKB Posts: 2 Rating: (0)	Thanks H-H, We also thought of having heater there but the volume of the enclosure is quite large and the supply for the heater being Non-UPS, there may be durations when the non-UPS supply is not available and the heater may not work. Also during initial loop checking phases, the enclosure might not be closed so the heaters may not be having the same effect... Just wanted to know if anyone has experience using it at around -5 Deg Celsius or so. Regards, RKB

Cabinet located at the pier (Rittal ex enclosure), S7 PLC inside (non siplus). Temperatures -30 at winter, up to +30 at summer. Main idea is to not allow condensate/moisture, so better to use good enclosure.

Now things look different since the release of the new SIPLUS S7-400H.
