Hello s_erel; For th first few years after the introduction of the S7 CPUs, Siemens offered a special adapter casing that could hold 2 S5 intelligent modules (in S7 speak, FMs) in a S7 rack. Wen you purchased this adapter Siemens sent you the converted FBs required to operate these modules in a S7 environment. By the way, the adapter casing is no longer available in S7-400 catalogs, nor are the converted FBs. See the screenshot below, taken from this manual: From S5 to S7 Converter Manual This was the only option to integrate physically these S5 modules in a S7-400 rack (and only in that family of processors). See for example this list of available S5 IP modules with their converted FBs: IPs With Adapter Casing Now Also for Use in S7-400 PLCs This manual could also be interesting: it discusses the installation of the WF 705 in a S7 rack and the programming under Step 7: Equipment for Special Machines WF 705 Position Measuring Module However, note that in the screenshot alternative part numbers are given, for modules with similar functionalities in the standard S7-400 modules. In this case the WF 705 could be replaced with a FM 451. If you would like to mention the S7 family and software you intend to work with, we might be able to propose a replacement module that would give you similar functions as the WF 705, or very close. This would also be a cheaper alternative. Hope this helps, Daniel Chartier |
