Here is a quick overview which programming languages the different WinCC Systems use:

WinCC V7/8/WinCC Professional: VB Script, C Script

WinCC Comfort/Advanced: VB Script

WinCC Unified: Javascript

If you want to work ith WinCC Unified there are often ways to get things work with a Script if its to complicted for a common dynamization.

But you will not have to be a professional programmer for Javascript. Often the Scripts are pretty easy. A good point to start and to have a look if you need something is this FAQ:
