wincc RT V13 installation problem

Hi there,

I have a problem with wincc RT V13 here. the problem is that the RT icon in the TIA toolbar is inactive and when I try to install the updates for wincc RT I get a message saying that "wincc runtime professional v13.0 UPd6 requires wincc runtime professional V13.0 as installation requirement.System is unable to locate this version on the computer".

But contrary to this message I can see the "Simatic Wincc RT "  Icon in my computer's tray running, and when I check the installed programs in windows's control panel I can see that the "simatic wincc runtime professional V13.0 UPD1" and "simatic wincc runtime advanced v13.0" are already installed and are present as well.

so I am confused if finally "wincc rt professional"  is installed or not , and if it's installed, why the RT icon in the TIA toolbar is inactive and disabled and the update installation claims that it is not available.

please guide me to solve the problem,

thanks for your reply ,I am sending some screenshots to explain the problem more clearly,

as you can see in the attachment, the RT icon is inactive but the wincc RT is running in the tray, and windows's control panel shows that the wincc rt is already installed.

so may you please let me know why the RT in the TIA toolbar is inactive and when I try to install updates I get the message that says WINCC RT is needed to install updates and the installation is rejected?

the RT button beeing greyed out is normal in the TIA engineering environment if a WinCC Professional project is opened.

You have use "Online > Download to file System" to create a WinCC Professional runtime file. The WinCC Professional runtime file has to be opened by the "WinCC RT Start" runtime loader application. (Start > All programms >Siemens Automation >Runtime Systems > WinCC Runtime Professional)

The RT button should be blue, if a WinCC Advanced Project is opened in the TIA engineering Environment and the runtime is installed.

Unfortunately I can't tell you something helpful about your installation problem from what I see in the screenshots. Could you do a screenshot of the following window:

TIA Portal > Help > Installed software > Detailed Information about installed software > Products

Please make sure the column "Version" is fully visible.

I am not sure about your updates, but about the RT icon, then it is to simulate WinCC Advanced/Comfort; not for WinCC Professional.

To simulate WinCC Professional, you have to right click the WinCC Professional project (or PC station) and select the TIA menu "Online -> Simulate" and then one of the simulation options.

If you want to run the project for real on the same PC that you use for development, then you have to select the project (or PC station) and select "Online -> Download to file system" and then select a folder on the local harddrive.

Then you can open the project with the WinCC RT Start by browsing to that folder.

But normally you would only run simulation on the Engineering Station.

I would say it is because WinCC Advanced is a single operator station system and WinCC Professional is a SCADA system. The runtime is dependent on the name of the PC in the device configuration. 
So you can't run runtime files for different operator stations on the engineering PC if you use the name of some operator station PC. That's why you use the simulation - so you don't forget to change the name before creating the runtime file for the operator station.  

There might be some more historic reason, too. I'm just guessing here however, sorry.

If you use the WinCC RT Simulation in TIA Portal it mostly works exactly like the according runtime for both systems, so you don't really need to build your professional runtime for testing. If you do. don't forget to adjust the PC Name in the project.

Maybe try an update lower than 6 and have a look if this is can be installed?

Can you update to SP1? It helps with bugs and stability issues if you keep the TIA Portal updated. 
There are some big changes from V13 to V13 SP1: the compiler for Step 7 code is a bit more exact (but thus harsher, code adjustments might become necessary) and in WinCC Advanced you get a handful of cool new features. Other changes are somewhere in the update log on the V13 SP1 download site.

As I now look carefully at the list of installed softwares , I can see just wincc RT simulation  in the list of installed softwares, Do you think this is normal or there is something wrong with the installation, I mean shouldn't be  there something like "WINCC RT Professional" in addition to "WINCC RT Professional simulation " ??

Dear is_razi,

that's normal. It looks the same in my list of installed software. You will find both entries in the "Components" list below. I saw it in your first screenshot collection.

Also, you have the RT loader, so the runtime should be installed.

To calm yourself you can check the "Automation License Manager", too.
Select "Installes Software" and you should see several entrys "WinCC RT Professional (different amount of powertags)" among the list.
(But here you can't see the exact version of the software.)

Thanks for your comments, so you think there is no need to install the wincc RT professional separately and installing the TIA WINCC will install the RT implicitly .

and one more question, Do I need to install TIA completely in the user PC that is not supposed to be used to create or modify projects and is just for operating plant??
