wincc server/client conection

elme01 Posts: 13 Rating: (1)	Hi I have a multi-user application. I have added the client machine on the "computer" tag, created an appropiate package and defined an user with "Activate remote" and "Configure Remote" options. Both client and server machines are on the same network and login with the same window count. I'm using win2k sp4 in both of them. I can see each PC from the other. I have the project open and running on the server. In these conditions I try to open the same project from the client. A system login window appears, so i enter the created user. It seema that wincc recognizes it. But then the following message appears: "The \\g2server\\wincc60_proyect_spenceprj\spenceprj.mcp file could not be loaded" and I can't load the project. The same error happens with the project not running on the server. Also I used the autostart option to open it from the server. The system login window appears and the user is accepted, but the following error appears: "Error while activating the project \\\\g2server\\wincc60_proyect_spenceprj\spenceprj.mcp. Autostart not possible" I can't open the Simatic Shell from Windows Explorer, but i can open it from the open project window in wincc. I don't know if this is related to my problem. I hope you can give some advise. Greetings

elme01 Posts: 13 Rating: (1)	Thanks a lot Nemo. But i have a pair of questions: 1. I don't know if there is a DHCP server installed. i suppose the machine i work in should be. It has Win2000 server and it doesn't show me the network connections (it hides them and the clients does the same). But if a can see the server from the client and viceversa does it mean that there should be no problem with this point? 2. I opened the Computer Management (My Computer --> Manage). Over System Tools--> Event Viewer --> System i saw a recurrent error related to DCOM: "DCOM was unable to communicate with the computer SIMATIC (the client) using any of the configured protocols". My questions is: Is it necessary to configure a DCOM service? in that case what parameters it should have? Does WinCC automaticaly configures them? I also opened the Distributed COM Configuration Properties and i detected that the applications CCEServer and CCEClient (i think they are related and used by WinCC in server/client communication) at the endpoint option don't have any DCOM protocols added. I think they use the default protocols (Connected-oriented TCP/IP, Connection-oriented SPX, Connection-oriented NetBEUI and Connection-oriented NetBios over IPX with the default options).

If you have set your network card to use a dynamically assigned address then this can cause issues with client / servers. Please go to your network properties in Control Panel \ Networking and ensure that a static IP address is configured. Something like 192.168.0.1. 2) The standard DCOM settings should work for client / server communications (unless you have XP SP2 ! ). However it may be worth following the steps in the Communication Manual to set up DCOM - http://support.automation.siemens.com/WW/view/en/21320307 Finally, you mention that you cannot access SIMATIC Shell folder from Windows Explorer. It is a sure sign that if this folder is empty then your clients will not connect ! The usual reason for this is that static IP addresses have not been assigned to the card and set in the SIMATIC Shell folder. I hope this helps Salma

Although i cannot see the simatic shell content,i can configure it. The setting window shows the following information: Network Adapter: Intel(R) PRO/1000 CT Network Connection MAC: 00-30-05-91-F9-35 IP: 172.16.2.100 Multicast time to live (TTL): 1 Compatibility V6.0 : checked Multicast Proxy: dont have any. So a card is configure in the simatic shell. Any idea? greetings

Salma Gold Member Joined: 9/27/2005 Last visit: 11/27/2007 Posts: 1398 Rating: (151)	Sorry to keep on about the network settings but can you check one more thing : - Open Control Panel -> Network Connections - Double-click on your Local Area Connection icon - Click the Properties button - Select Internet Protocol (TCP/IP) from the list - Click the Properties button - Do you have Obtain an IP address automatically checked OR is a an IP address is entered ? Like I say, if the SIMATIC Shell window is empty then something is not right about the network settings and this will prevent clients connecting to the server. Two other things to check are : - Have you configured the HOSTS file on both the server and the client? - Have you configured the network card on both machines with a hard-coded network speed, and not left it at auto-detect? This last point I have seen cause issues with client / server comms so it is always best to specify the network speed and not let it be auto-detected (why I do not know, it just seem sto make a positive difference ! ) Can you try the above and let us know how you get on? Ikkezelf Posts: 1084 Rating: (72)	Hi, If DHCP is turned of, then a static IP-address is listed (if i'm not mistaken). I'm not sure about the subnet, but I had network problems before when the subnet was not entered correctly. It's worth a try or not? with regards, Ikkezelf
