WinCC SP4

Greetings.

We have recently installed WinCC SP4 on some systems and have noticed a few anomalies after the installation.

After rebooting the systems there is an entry in the application event log from the Automation License Manager:

We get this waning message every time we reboot the systems. Is this expected?

Also, under WinCCExplrer Help About, the WinCC Explorer Info dialog window appears with text indicating it is "SIMATIC WinCC" but there is no version information. In the right hand box it does indicate "Hotfix 2 (02_01.01.00.01)". I would have expected it to indicate that we have "SIMATIC WinCC V6.0 SP4" installed. Is this not expected?

The Installed SIMATIC software lists that we have:
Automation License ManagerV2.2 + HF1
SIMATIC WinCCV6.0 SP4 + Hotfix2

These were new installs that were done on both Windows 2000 SP4 and Windows 2003 SP1 systems with the same results.

Thank you for clarifying that we appear to have the product installed correctly. (Although I would think that the ALM should not be reporting this error and that the correct version information should be displayed.)

We are trying to set up a simple multi-user project with a single server and are having problems getting it to work. We have been given different instructions on this matter, but we have essentially been following the documentation and have not been able to bring up the client project yet. This is what we have done so far:

1. Created a new multi-user project on the server (Test.MCP).

2. Created a simple picture in the server project.

3. Added client PC(s) to the project.

4. Assigned operating rights for clients to enable remote configuration. We are using the privileged administrator account for these tests and we can see that Administrator is part of the SIMATIC HMI groups.

5. Activated the package import at the server.

6. Configured the client properties in the server project.


On the client PC we have set the AutoStartRT to reference the project on the server (Test.MCP). When we log in AutoStartRT attempts to open the project and it does not complete. Also when we try to open the server projectfrom the client using WinCC itfailswhere afterseveral minutesa dialog box appears indicating that "The Configured Serer is not available."


So, what are we doing wrong? It is probably something simple, but we have not been able to identify the cause of the problem yet.

Note that I did try creating a client project on the server and was able to open that client project from the client PC, but since we are using a multi-user system with a single server we should not be configuring and opening the project in this manner.

Eventually we will be adding a redundant server into our configuration and for now we have installed the redundancy software license on the server. Looking through the documentation on "Redundant Systems" I did not see any reference to any changes required on the clients with respect to the client configuration (other than opening the project and possibly configuring a preferred server). Do we need to set up client projects when we have redundant servers?

Yes, we can ping the server from the client and vice versa, using bothIP and computer name.

- What OS's are running on the server and client computers?

We have been running Windows Server 2003 SP1 on the server and have tried both WindowsServer 2003 SP1 and Windows 2000 SP4 clients.

- You have assigned passwords to the Windows users on both machines.

We are using the administrator account and have verified that we have read/write access to the folders. We have assigned a WinCC password to the account.

- SIMATIC Shell folder is populated correctly.

The SIMATIC Shell folder appears to be correct. From the client if we select the server name under Simatic Shell the server project is listed in the right hand frame. If we then select the server project on the right hand frame the project is listed as a Multi-user project and the server name is correct. The status of the project is updated depending upon the status of the server (i.e. Run Time or Configuration or blank).

From what you are saying it sounds like it must be a some sort ofnetwork / security problem, but we do not seem to have a network or security problem. Perhaps we are just doing something wrong in the setup?

Actually, we have checked the release notes and the software installation notes. In the Installation Prerequisites section within the Installation Notes Section of the WinCC Read First documentation on the installation CD there is a section on Software Requirements for Installation. Under Stand-alone Systems and Clients the documentation states:

"WinCC runs under Windows XP Professional and Windows 2000"

This is followed by a table and then under the table it states:

"Single user systems and clients in WinCC multi-user systems can also be operated on Windows 2000 and Windows server 2003."

This certainly seems to imply that the client software can be installed and run on Windows Server 2003. Is the documentation wrong?

Regardless though, we are still not able to open the project from either a Windows 2000 client or a Windows Server 2003 client.
