WinCC Unified simulation partly running

Hi, I am trying to simulate a WinCC Unified panel on my laptop. The simulation works fine as long as I use only internal tags on the screen.

Problem comes up when I create an S7 connection between the PLC and the panel. Simatic runtime manager says the project is "partly running" and in the simulated panel screen all the PLC tags are not accessible. It is the same case whether the PLC simulation is on or off.

TraceViewer shows errors:
- "could NOT get config file name from -proj or -config parameters"
- "could NOT get project name from -proj or -config parameters"
- "project name or config file not specified or failed to load"
- "CRTProjectConnector::StartProject: Start project f17ebd...183 failed. Error 2147483648."

I sent the project archive to my colleague and he was able to start the simulation with no problems. It seems like my computer has some part of software or some files missing.

Have you got any ideas on how to fix this?

I am afraid that Windows 10 21H1 has not yet been tested by Siemens, so it has not been released to work with any TIA version, and it seems that this is the source of the problem.

i also have this exact problem: V17 Upd2 on Windows 10 21H1 build 19044

one of my collegues has 19043 and does't have this issue so i asked help.

a Siemens technical saw my PC and told me that probably it's due to a OEM version of Windows: in System>Device Specs my product ID ends with an "-AAOEM" instead of 3 numbers.

That means that it is a specific version (in my case from ASUS) and they can't test all OEMs versions.

Maybe it is also your case and we can see a pattern. (At the moment i am using a VM to fix this issue and keep working)

I was also having this issue with "Partly running" and not having connection to the PLC from the simulated WinCC Unified panel.

I ended up with support guiding me through the changes I had to make on my computer and I thought I'd share it here, as this was the forum post that got me the closest without actually solving it.

The support guy shared a link on the solution and a pdf about the certificate handling.

Manual, Entry ID: 109798671 - Look in the last 2 sections "Certificate configuration..." and "Simulation with S7-PLCSIM"

Yes, it's all installed and running on the same virtual machine (VM).

The VM has two network cards, one DHCP for internet connection (TCPIP.3) and one for the PLC communication (TCPIP.2), the PG/PC interface is set up to communicate on TCPIP.2 as shown on the screenshot attached.
