XWP with project located on shared network drive for multi user access

Hello,

Does anybody know if it is possible to host an XWP project on a shared network drive so that multiple users can acces the same project, and work on it at the same time?

The reason I would like to know is that we have a large site, with lots of small changes that are required frequently, currently we have a dedicated PC on site that hosts XWP that we remotley connect to for these changes. However, only one person can be logged on and using it at any one time. We do sometimes use the Check Out/In process, however for some reason a check in now takes well over 1hr to complete, so this is only used where you may be doing a lot of engineering, say for a new building ect. As we're in the UK, we do not have option of using the branch office server function as it is not available to us.

Therefore I was considering hosting the project on a shared network drive, that individuals can point their own XWP project paths to.

The only concern that I can see would be, what happens if two or more people try to open the CFC software for the same AS, would CFC warn you, or block you from making changes as the files are locked to another user in the background?

Siemens UK do not allow us to use it as they do not support it in the UK

I've a bad experience with shared place in XWP, there is every time a challenge, when you opening XWP, but you don't have access  to shared disc, then the XWP will want to set a new path for those.

I've using this on my PC, where I've several XWP versions (I'm working as support), where those accessing the shared disc on the host machine for archives. 

But my virtual machine has not always all shared places ready connected, and if I forgot to check them before I starting the XWP, then it is lost.

Hi both, thanks for that. I agree, that from everything that I've read it does seem the right application for us to use.

Does it need any special licences, or does it rely on the XWP licence?

Any help with install files and documentation would be much appreciated.
