Previously I've tried to figure out when will reach 80 deg.C for the first time, i.e. when doing nothing swithes fan on (Even in my room still 26,8 deg.C, precisely. Answer is: never! Second test I made was to set CPU load to approx. 60%. I have run MyDefrag and MS Sec.Essential (antyvirus) in the sme time to give me such load (oscillating between 40 and 95%). In such regime temp goes from 72 to 85 within about 2 minutes and then it need just one (12s) or 2 (24s) cycles of temp reading refresh to cool it back to about 70 deg.C. Now I try to get it on maximum load, at it looks like it goes to maximum of 93 deg.C within 30s, and cools down to 85 and to 70 within 30s, so it is pumping all time. But now it never run for hours and never gets high than 93 deg.C. Temp. switching is as before: T<80 deg.C = off 80<T<90 deg.C = 1 stage (ab. 70% of full speed) 90<T deg.C = 2 stage (ab. 100% of full speed) And this is the main problem now. How to ask Siemens guys to made: - more stages (can be 11 stages according to SMSC) - optimize it's behaviour to use hysteresis and slower motion of fan when average CPU load >50%. PS. Gre_m... your feeling was right. Thanks! PS. Forgot to tell: Wait few hours before warms up CPU after thermal paste exchange !!! Fast heating of liquid paste can spit it out. Best is to wait ab.12h to get paste dries. cheers, Zee

As can be see in attachments, even if FPGM works 5 hours non stop with heavy work CPU load (>60%), it works just fine. With IntelBurn test (UR nut, Gre_m!) 100% load continuous temperature is 100 deg.C and max that could be seen 103 deg.C. After test is over (from 100% to ab. 60%) heatsink cools up within 30s (!). Marvelous. Anybody still not believing ? PS. Before maintenance I could never made such a stress to my peegee even for money. Sure! Attachment 100 percent of load.JPG (641 Downloads)

Anyway it is why it calls notebook instead of laptop, ''''cause it isn''''t possible to keep it on your laps, anyway, but keeps quiet finally. But it is not an end of the story... in 6th hour of continuous working at high load, suddenly the story repeated. fan controller locked down on 2nd speed. Then even temperature drops to CPU:45 MB:39 deg.C after a while it wouldn't stop. Pity! Now I im pretty sure that there is another "overload" switch-on trigger limit to run continuously, either CPU:110 deg.C or MB:65 deg.C. Previously i thought there is also switch-off limit of this "overload" state. But there is not! Another options would be: 1. temporary malfunction of temperature sensor or 2. driver routine, what is not very propable as "overload". There are sure things: 1. EC/SuperIO LPC47N252 doesn't control temperature directly, there is no sensor input or sensor inside. It just outputs PWM channel. 2. With low CPU load lock down could never happen. 3. Precise cleaning of all dirty elements inside that could be a temperature sensor didn't change nothing. 4. Panasonic fan used doesn't returns speed signal. There are only 2 wires going into. I have checked all possible discrete elements to find hall sensor, without effect. Maybe EC speed input is never used. 5. Last BIOS update (Siemens ver.06.01.02 consist of SMBIOS (EC BIOS of 1MB) of ver.74. Maybe it is any further version that can be implemented, but Siemens stopped supporting of FPGM? 6. Company SMSC did not support this EC any longer. Utilities can be found in Keil webpage only. Any other ideas? cheers, Zee

Better the fan stays on even it is cold than the fan remains off when it is hot. A PG is a heavy-duty tool, not an office toy. (exept the new FPG-M3... :-) ) So there may be an additional contact or probe. Perhaps you touch it by cleaning everything and it was OK for some time. After a while, contact becomes bad again and fan start with "emergency speed". Other idea: Do you use some software that caused switch on the fan?

It was happened with load of around 65% when antyvirus scanner and defragmenter was running at the second plane. No other software. I also agree to have such a "overload protection" switch embedded, but Siemens should clarify what level is set and what should be user's reaction. Another track to be investigated: Have anybody used Simatic PC BIOS-Manager, maybe there are some switches or limits that can be changed? I am not sure whether it is worth 43,75€ (50 points)... Anybody tried it? cheers, Zee
