Speed and acceleration with a inductive sensor

ArcticM Posts: 24 Rating: (0)	Hello, I have a Logo! PLC and I would like with the high speed input mesure a speed of a flywheel with the teeth. I found this sensor: http://uk.rs-online.com/web/search/searchBrowseAction.html?method=getProduct&R=7018231 In fact it is not the speed which interrest me but the acceleration of this flywheel. Does anyone already done something like that? And I have an other question. Which input on my PLC should I have to plug this inductive sensor? Thanks

The speed of a continuous electric motor is proportional with his voltage. So if I put this electric motor on my flywheel and if I put this electric motor voltage on an analogue input of my PLC I will be able to have the speed of the flywheel isn't it? I have the logo Monitor software so I will be able to obtain these datas on excel to obtain the speed. ArcticM

So questions are: Is it relevant? On which input have I to put the output of my converter? Thanks

(switching frequency) Some Logo's have highspeed inputs, please check the manual for that. You can measure frequency with a logo /tf/WW/de/Posts/13648 Only in German, sorry. Second idea with a Motor, not my favorit. 3th idea, your sensor has to be fast enough. Best regards, Marcjan

ArcticM Posts: 24 Rating: (0)	Yes this program seems really good but I would like to obtain a curve with Logo!Monitor software. I saw that there is I3 which is a high speed input. Do I have to configure that on the logo soft? The sensor that I found and the converter frequency current can work until 2000Hz so if I am all right for 2000teeth detected/sec so 2teeth/ms. Am I all right? Edit: I made a mistake, if I make what I want, I need to use a analogue input.

If what you need is to read the speed of a motor and see graphics of the speed and acceleration, then the LOGO! might not be your device. It´s like trying to measure the diameter of an axis with 0,01 mm precission using a construction flexometer. Instead, I would look for any freeware DAQ software with a high frecuency I/O card with USB or parallel port and a encoder for the motor, with this you will me able to do everything much cheaper and reliable.

Thanks Maybe i am late, but i have faced the same issues few days ago , your sensor sensing range is 2mm ,so make sure that the distance between your sensor and the flywheel's teeth is 1.5mm and less. According to your sensor, the Max. switching frequency 2000 Hz (2KHz) i recommend if you have a high speed motor , then just put a scotch tape at the top side of each teeth and keep one of the tooth in normal situation thus , the sensor will detect this teeth as one revolution (It wont be very precised ) or you can have a higher switching frequency sensor to count .
