I am looking for some advice from our more experienced members or indeed anyone who can assist,let me explain a little what i am trying to do.

i use a gas burner control system made by honeywell satronic and its only a small unit within itself but if an error occurs on the burner control it gives a flash code in a sort of morse code format(see attached pdf) to indicate what type of fault it is.

i know honeywell sell whats known has a satropen to read these codes by way of an IR transmitter//receiver  and i indeed have one but i am looking to (if i can) build something that i can leave on the customers control system for a few days so that it logs the faults so i am wondering if there is any such thing has an optical reader that will give me a pulse when the led on the unit is on? or there is another way of possibly doing it by removing the led itself and somehow wiring this to an input on the LOGO but i suspect the flash will be rather quick.

anybody come across anything like this or any thoughts on this matter?

just an idea:

The error diagnostic flash code has only a view different conditions and if you get a trace it would be easy to find out.
Try a LOGO! with very poor program. (High --> Open connector) to be able to swith LOGO! to RUN mode without any function.

Meassure the voltage at the diagnostic LED (shoulb be ~3 V DV). 

Take a LOGO! 8 12/24RCE and connect M from LED to M of LOGO! power. LED+ connect to one of the LOGO! analogue inputs. Switch LOGO! to RUN.

Then press cursor --> as often till the I/O status of AI is shown on the display ( 3 or 4 times).Once the LED is ON you should see a number ~300 on one of the AI's. Change the corsor to this AI number and press OK.

In the display of LOGO! you can see a trend view of this selected AI and you can see the flash code.

I hope this works. Please note LOGO! updates this trend each 500ms . As long as you don't change in the menue you can see the trend on the LOGO! display. To switch backlight ON, just press cursor DOWN on LOGO!
