Sinumerik 828D Networking

 I am also new for 828D, and I don't understand in full your question, if you can post a picture from 828D HMI display to support your question --that will help other member to help you!

I really searched 828D manual , try to find some for you , attached pages from commissioning manual . I think/guess "  networked them to our Server 2008 file server" --means you make network between your server and 828D HMI. then you can access 828D HMI from your network --such as loading/editing NC Program, backup data . Let me know you can access NCU from your network?

If i am right --828D HMI is a special PC , the network matter belong to IT/PC/Networking scope , At least I don't find 828D manual talking about detail about this matter. 

I myself successful connected PC thru Ethernet SINUMERIK 840D old MMC 103 (Win 95), and PCU50 (Win NT or Win XP) . that was only access HMI HDD to load files.

We have two XYZ CNC milling machines that use the Sinumerik 828D. When we installed them, we networked them to our Server 2008 file server. This has worked fine for 6 years. 

We have now installed a new Server 2022 machine in the office. I hoped that I would only need to change the IP address on the Sinumerik controller in order to access the new server. However, I cannot find any way to make these machines connect to the new file server. No matter what I try, whenever I save the configuration I get a Connection Failed message. The old server is still on line and connected to these machines. So I know that it's not a hardware problem. I've tried connecting to a windows 10 laptop connected locally. That didn't work either.

Can some confirm to me that the Sinumerik 828D is compatible with Server 2022? Maybe I need to configure something on the new file server?

 I am not network expert , but from 1989 , I have been worked for Siemens SINUMERIK. 

you did not direct answer my question, but I think --you said "networking" to SINUMERIK 828D, is only access its HMI (special PC) , just can access it HDD, NOT for NCU.

If your old server can connect , I suggest keep it as is . Or you can try to use one standard alone PC to 1-to-1 connect HMI, then maybe relay to connect your PC to server 

SINUMERIK is focus on CNC function for machining , Not focus on HMI network. at least I think about it like this

When I try to save the above configuration it fails. I have 25 years experience in network administration. I cannot figure out why the the sinumerik is failing to connect to our new server.

 You don't know NCU ? it is no matter for you. if you just want to connect 840D HMI to server (maybe for one of external PC), I have a suggestion.

I know 840D HMI is windows based software. try to go into windows--then connect it using TP/IP protocol  . But I am not sure for 828D, if it is Windows based, you can do the same thing.

@Nulizhang: Yes we are only using the network to load files from the server, and save them there also.  I don't know what NCU means. I don't think we use this.  Our old server is 14 years old and needs to be switched off. I need to get our CNC milling machines talking to the new server. I tried configuring drives to other machines on the network, including Windows 7 and XP. Everything failed. It seems that the two Sinumerik controllers will only talk to our old Server 2008 machine.
