I have to order a field PG. I also need Protool to configure some "old" operating panels in our plant.
They told me that I can install Protool in a Windows XP enviroment within Windows 7 Ultimate and still use the RS-232 port.

Is this correct?

one time I met with Germany Technician. He is using win7 and protool 6.3 installed without VMware. I ask him how to install it because I install in win7 always fail. He advise installing protool first then WinCC. I tried it but still unsuccesful. anyone has idea?

i installed PROTOOL in windows 7 with the compability option, i make all setup.exe in the directory of protool comptible with windows xp sp3 firstly, i think it work fine but i have one problem: protool runtime work fine but i cant run it from protool, it show me that the "protool runtime" is not installed.
any one have an idea to resolve that?

Hello

Right-click on setup.exe and shoose "Compatibility and problem solver". Then choose that the program works on a previous Windows version and then choose Windows XP SP3.

After this, save the modifications.

Now run setup.exe

This works for me

question was how to have all needed SW in one PG. I got my PG M4 and have 2 OS installed on it - Win XP SP3 and WIN7 (in my case x64 Ultimate). So if you make this dual boot, in WIN XP you can install your old SW needed for automation (mean ProTool). Give info pls.

Update: Some people can install ProTool directly under Win7 with some install properties compatible to WIN XP, but this I didn't tested. This situation is somewhere on forum posted.

Another possibility is to have on your Laptop or PG several VMs "Virtual Machines"

You can have on your Windows 7 PG VM with Windows XP and Protool installed on it.

 I face the same Problem after the installation on Windows 7 Professional SP1 64 Bit:

 I  can't run Protool RT from protool, it show me that the "Protool runtime" is not installed ,although I installed it.

Would be nice to have a proper documentation to setup Protool 6.0 Sp3 RT to work on Windows 7 32bit using Windows XP compatibility.

Although I can get CS to work within Step 7, I am unable to get RT to work.  Indicates it is not installed, even though it is.  I can open RT directly.

I know this system is not supported, but some of us are stuck due to old panels that still are functioning with the company also having multiple spare panels waiting be used.

I believe WinCC does not support the Siemens MultiPanel MP 370, therefore forcing us to use Windows XP which many IT depts. will not allow on their network.

Is there any Siemens Expert that can make this work, we are almost there, just need to have Runtime work within Simatic Step 7.
