Error message HW Config stopped working

There is an existing project where I am making some software changes. Simatic Manager, CFC-Editor and NetPro work just fine but when I try to open the HW Config, I get a window with the error message "S7 Hardwarekonfigurator has stopped working". It looks more like a Windows error message than a Siemens error message. I generated a new project to make sure it's not a project issue and in the new project, HW Config also wouldn't start. The details of the error message are as follows: - Problem Event Name: APPCRASH - Application Name: S7HWCNFX.EXE - Application Version: 505.300.2603.1 - Application Timestamp: 50f5569b - Fault Module Name: ntdll.dll - Fault Module Timestamp: 5e0eb751 - Exception Code: c0000005 - Exception Offset: 0004ebc3 - OS Version: 6.1.7601.2.1.0.272.7 - Locale ID: 1033 - Additional Info 1: 4c0d - Additional Info 2: 4c0d4d78887f76d5d00f1f20a433 - Additional Info 3: 4c0d - Additional Info 4: 4c0d4d78887f76d5d00f1f20a433 Any idea what causes that?
