ET200 SP HA with D-sub connector PCS v9.1

Hi experts,
I am using for the first time ET200 SP HA in PCS7 V9.1 SP2 (UC04).

I gone through TIA selection tool based on that I got the HW details.

For Carrier module Tool is suggesting CARRIER MODULE EIGHTFOLD (with PowerBus)   6DL1193-6GC00-0NN0.

Why can't we select CARRIER MODULE EIGHTFOLD (without PowerBus)   6DL1193-6GC00-8NN0.

The same HW I am trying to configure in SW, I want to know following:

1. If we are using D-sub connector, do we have to mentioned in HW configured? I believe we should not mention.

2. Need to know in detailed for configuration settings for Potential Group for each module.
 - Set Up new potential group
 - No potential group
 - Potential Group of the left module.

Please connect me directly if my doubt is not clear.

in TIA Selection Tool, make sure you have the newest version if using desktop version.  Set the properties for the whole Rack from the main page and select without power bus.  (working in desktop version)  I didn't try online version with this feature.

As for usage questions:

1. Nothing is required in HW config.

2.For using D-Sub, each module is automatically its own power bus, there is no option to use previous.  Also if you are using the Siemens D-Sub base (e.g. H0) you have to supply power to the auxiliary terminals on the base.  If you use the Phoenix D-Sub adapter that plugs into standard base (e.g. H1), you can use the auxiliary terminals or the power terminals at the Phoenix VIP terminal.  The Siemens D-Sub does not connect the 24V through the D-Sub header, which is annoying.

1. ET200SP HA Powered Backplane explanation:

The D-SUB connectors for ET 200SP HA use the BLACK terminal blocks which have no connection to the power bus of the backplane. The is a separate power connector that is provided.

The non-powered backplane only accommodates BLACK and LIGHT GREY terminal blocks, which both have their own power supply. The one exception here is that the Light Grey variant can be used with a powered backplane to form potential groups, with the black variant you cannot form potential groups.

You can however use a black terminal on a powered backplane, just the terminal block isolates itself from the power bus...the same way the light grey module does.

Variants of Backplane available:

2fold = Powered

8fold = Powered or Non-Powered.


Can you please confirm which carrier module I should use?

It is user preference.  Your response and conclusion to the sales clarification seems contradictory to the actual requirements.  Also I thought you just needed to know about software config not hardware requirements, sorry I could have included all this before.

If you are going to use exclusively black terminal base or light gray terminal base, both of which requires new power group for each terminal, then you can use the CARRIER MODULE EIGHTFOLD (without PowerBus) 6DL1193-6GC00-8NN0 and save money since it is cheaper by about 30%.

If you think you might ever mix and match dark gray terminals in any slots after a light gray to form a common power group, then you should use CARRIER MODULE EIGHTFOLD (with PowerBus) 6DL1193-6GC00-0NN0.
