Updating Node.js

Hi everybody,

for our application, we need a node.js-version >= 6.

The current image of the IOT2040 contains node.js in version 4.2.4, which was the Long-Term-Support-Version...

The actual LTS-Version (since oct 2016) is node v6.

How can we upgrade the node.js version?

Using 'opkg upgrade nodejs' is not working.

Even 'n' (which is a small tool to upgrade node) doesn't help (gives a tar error).

Any ideas?

Hi,

with the Image Release V2.1.3 the next weeks the node-js version 6.9.2 is installed. 

This is also a LTS version.

 Weeks? Please could you give me the exact planning. Several packages (node-red) need node version >4.7.0. OR could you give us an update procedure how to install it manually.

As Version 6.10.1 is the current LTS-version, why will 6.9 be included in the next image and not 6.10.1? There are a lot of improvements from version 6.9 to 6.10.1...

Maybe my question was a little bit rude, breaking into this conversation asking for a planning...

I am pretty new to IOT in general. What I encounter is that for example node-red-contrib-modbus at least needs version node v4.7.0. For example: the modbus server is not working because of the missng function BufferAlloc. I have tried it with a RaspberryPI installed node version v6.9.5 it was working OK.

So in my opinion we have to find out/make clear how to install an updated version of node manually without waiting for the next image. This will be a great improvement of the success of the IOT2000. I don't know if there is someone who figured this out. I am very interested!
