Thijs Posts: 121 Rating: (16)	Hi, I'm using a CP414-3DP with a CP443-1 advanced. When I look in the HW-config I see that the configured maximum number off connection resources is 300. When I look online I see that there only 32 connection resources availeble. Allso it's not possible to reserve connection resources. Why is that? Thijs

J_Bell Posts: 5822 Rating: (412)	Hello Thijs, I have to admit I am a bit confused, because I do not know a point where it is written that you can have upt to 300 Connections, or Connection resources, in a CPU S7-400. For the mentioned CPU 32 S7-Connections are available, true. But this does not mean that you can not have additional TCP Connections, or UDP Connections, or ISO on TCP Connections or even ISO Transport Connections. Could you tell us where you found this information? Thank you in advance, J_Bell

Whith the CPU I've got there is the value off 300. I ack this becaurce yesterday whe had a problem whitch a OPC server using 22 connections. There is no possebility I found to reserve connection like in a S7-300 series CPU. (I mean PG/OP/S7/Other connections) Thijs

Let’s see what the context Help says about this: Communication jobs Here you enter the maximum number of possible communication jobs via all the configured S7 connections. Each communication job (for example, STATUS, USEND/URCV, BSEND/BRCV, PUT/GET/PRINT, START/STOP/RESUME, STATUS, USTATUS, ALARM, ALARM_8, ALARM_8P, NOTIFY, AR_SEND) is assigned an instance data block, which occupies memory. The number of instance data blocks is identical to the number of communication jobs. So, as we see here describes this number not the number of Connections but the number of Jobs possible over the possible connections. On the other side I wonder myself what you do with 22 S7-Connections from one OPC Server to one PLC? If you expect a improved performance I have to tell you that the communication Jobs are not parallel processed within the PLC CPU. So what is the reason for that? As far as I remember is the communication performance between two Stations best if you have up to 4 Connections. Everything above that is too much. What wonders me is that you can transfer various Datablocks from and to several locations over one Connection, what could be the reason to use so many connections? Best regards J_Bell.

With those 32 connections I'm able to have for example 300 B-send / recevie jobs active. Ok, now I understand that part, The 22 connections by the OPC server is a slight different problem. We are using ProfiNET is a quit big setup. Last week we had major communication problems. I think the OPC server lost the connection and buildup another but without droppen the other

J_Bell Posts: 5822 Rating: (412)	Dear Thijs, you are right, this number representsthe number of possible instance DB's for Communication. So you can have up to 300 Instance DB's for the available number of connections. The number of connections varies by the use of the different CPU's. About the issue with the OPC I am also not sure, becauseseen form the SIMATIC NET OPC Server we have only the configured number of connections. This means if we notify that one connection is lost we reconnect over the same connection but we usually do not open another connection and leave the last connection open. A connection that is down will be closed and the same connection, if the connections are configured on both sides, will be opened again. The connection has to be configured on both sides if you want to use BSEND / BRECV. If one connection is down on the PC and not on the PLC the PLC will notice that the connection is down at the remote note at least after the timeout time and will shut down the connection after that. So I have no clue what your OPC Server does. Best regards J_Bell.

Thijs Posts: 121 Rating: (16)	What the OPC server is doeing by opening so much connections (all not reserved) I don't know. I only know that by disconnection and connecting the OPC server it now only usses 1 connection. The OPC server we are using is from Kepware
