Hello Tmsoft; When using a DP/PA link + Couplers, you need to create a unique GSD file for the link on the DP network. The gsd file you insert in the configurator must be built sepecially for the DP/PA link, using Siemens' GSDtool program. It requires a Java virtual machine on your computer (free download, as indicated in the download file)and the individual gsd files for all PA slaves you intend to setup on the link. Here is a link to the GSDtool download and help. The data you will be able to collect from each PA instrument will be made available through the gsd file you build. For example, for a standard PApressure transmitter, you will read one 4-byte REAL value containing the pressure measurement (in the format selected though the parameters) and a one-byte diagnostic value. You will not be able to read/write the instrument parameters through the link (or coupler) , if that is what you intend to do; you will always need PDM (or similar PA tool) for that. Hope this helps, Daniel Chartier |

Hello J_Bell; And thanks for pointing this out. I've been doing a PA interface with CLogix and GE masters for so long now hat I hadn't even considered their use could be different with an S7 Profibus master. Just checked on the Support site, and found this FAQ showing the PA slave configuration with a S7 master: (http://support.automation.siemens.com/WW/view/en/22729489) I apologize if my posts on PA configuration have caused complications in anyone's project.. Regards, Daniel Chartier |
