It does look like a suspicious VMware installation.

Just one quick question.

When you change the netcard setting for the VMware, do you always shut down the virtual machine (before changing)?

When I say shut down, i mean shut down; not stand-by or pause or reboot.

For VMware it is not enough just to change the setting. You must shut down the virtual machine and start it up again.

Dear Michael K, my method to change the netcard is shutdown the virtual machine, close down VMware and manually edit .vmx file on Notepad, setting for example:

ethernet0.virtualDev = "e1000"

or

ethernet0.virtualDev = "vmxnet3"

Then, when I run the virtual machine, the driver is automatically installed.

TIA V13 support and is released for Win7 32bit Operating System.

You can check this with the compatibility tool!

Hello, 

I must apologize.  I was looking under the "recommended requirements" for installation in the Step 7 V13 software manual.  Windows 7 32-bit is not listed there.  However, it does meet the "minimum requirements".  Thank you for pointing this out.

Many times the communication is blocked by something on the PC or VM.  It could be antivirus, firewall, inter-company network patches, or 3rd party software.  To help eliminate this we suggest to use generic 3rd party USB-Ethernet adaptor rather than the on-board ethernet card.  Also, it is recommend to configure the VM as "Bridged" rather than "NAT".  "NAT" can work, but sometimes we see issues especially when not using the USB-Ethernet adaptor. 

We would also suggest to uninstall the antivirus software.  We have had many instances with some AV software blocking discovery packets from leaving pc.  If you are using a virtual machine this should be removed from both host OS and VM.

Here are a few other items you can try.  Try detecting with "update accessible devices" after each item.

1. Temporarily disable firewall.  If TIA is on VM (virtual machine) do this for both.

2. Put interface card on fixed IP (not DHCP). If TIA is on VM (virtual machine) do this for both.

3. Disable other interfaces (wireless or additional NIC cards).

4. Disable used interface and re-enable.  Open/close "Set PG/PC Interface" in Control Panel.

5. Follow the steps under "Device driver cannot be selected or is not visible" at the following link:

The description in Number 5 above does not detail this issue.  However, we have seen this resolve the issue described by the customer.

Another thought is that some customers have went back to a previous VM configuration that did work or even created a new VM.

 Anyway, I'm now installing TIA Portal V13 SP1 on Windows 7 64-bits (Virtual Machine)

Siemens's advises doesn't work, the VM 64-bits doesn't work. But, the same VM with Windows 7 32-bits on another notebook with Windows 7 64-bits works perfectly. I think something is wrong in my notebook or Windows 8.1.

Anybody tried TIA on VMs with Windows 7  32-bits on a host with Windows 8.1 64-bits?

I'm using a core i7 POSITIVO BGH G870.

Here is my story:

I have:

WIN7 SP1 64 bit as host system.

VMware 6.0.2 with WIN7 SP1 32 bit as guest system, and also WINxp SP3 32 bit as other guest system

On virtual WIN7 machine I have installed TIA13, Step 7 SP1 Updt5. I have brand new CPU1214, and first tried to connect it, but without success.

On virtual WINxp machine I have TIA11, and the same PLC was (at first) successfully found with Online & Diagnostic->Accessible devices (found by MAC address, without IP address). After few hours of trying again to connect with WIN7 machine, I go back on WINxp machine, but now neither XP machine found the PLC.

Than, I installed TIA13 on other computer, and first attempt of connecting to PLC was successful, and than I managed to set PLC IP address to 192.168.1.10.

I go back to computer with WINxp machine with TIA11, and ping was successful, and also TIA11 found the PLC and recognized before set IP address.

BUT, again on WIN7 machine with TIA13, device searching doesn't see PLC. Ping is successful. Tried NIC e1000 and e1000e.

My opinion is that emulated network card in WIN7 and TIA13 are not interested to work together.

Maybe stupid question, but, why in TIA13 on WIN7 machine I have "windows system & security sign" near ethernet card selection, and in XP TIA11 machine, I don't? See picture attached.

I would like to try NIC Vlance on win7 machine? It works for XP...

But, I can't find drivers for AMD 79C970 PCnet32 LANCE for win7. Does it even exist?

8. FINALY I tried to download config. to CPU (with WIN7 32 bit Vmachine). In project CPU configuration set the IP adress that I managed to set over other computer (the one that was able to find CPU, before the IP was set-see my previous post). And load to CPU succeeded. But if I try to search accessible devices, it still say 0 found... If I push "go on line" in my project, it works fine...

It's kind a stupid, because every time I would have new CPU, I can't find it first time to set IP address.

2.) which Settings you use for the VM Network? (NAT, Bridged?)

3.) running the Win7 and XP vm on the same Host PC at the same Time?

4.) Brand new S7-1200 ? Then you can't work with TIA V11 with this PLC!

5.) The Sign near the Ethernet Card is for configuring the Ethernet Card settings from TIA
      this is only possible for SIEMENS Ethernet CP Cards like CP1613

6.) No there is no driver AMD for Win7 , here you mus use the Intel E1000 Emulation

7.) In the screen ypu provided this is not a screen of a VM Guest or?

I work with Virtual Machines (VMWare) since many years and with all Siemens SW and have no problems with the Ethernet Interfaces.
