[Solved] Communication problems using PPi to PC(RS232)

yourib Posts: 5 Rating: (2)	Greetings, we've just changed one of the laptop we use here for another that didnt had a rs232 port, so we just bought a usb to rs232 adapter. We plugged the ppi to rs232 adapter on it and tried to connect but nothing was found. On the ppi/rs232, only the Rx light flashes. I tried scanning with all the baud rates, i tried several com port (1, 3, 4), i tried unenabling uart, i made sure i had the right address (0), the devices are on 2,3 & 4. I even uninstalled the VPN client we had installed just in case of. I replugged the old laptop and made sure the com port was configured correctly and the parameters too. All that added to some restarts. After all that, i tested my usb to rs232 port with an old pda and it worked fine too. What's next? edit : oh, almost forgot, when we replugged the old laptop, we tested the cable to make sure it was still working and it did fine and detected everything. edit #2 : Solved! We had to remove the switch #5 on the PPi(which is the master/free switch). From what i was told from the tech, not all usb to rs232 converters works, and not all that works works perfectly(hence the "can't use master"). I used a startech usb to rs232, which is a repack from prolific. Anyone can close this thread since its solved?

Hi,

mayb i could help to you, if you have problem with your cable PPI/USB, try to do this check list:

1. just unistall the microwin: sometimes if you had already microwin installed and after you use PPI/USB, this not detect the parameter USB in the Setting interffase PG/PC,

2. Install MicroWin Again:you dont need check any port because USb cable workby himself, this cable is soo good.

3. CheckSetting Interfase PG/PC: and do this. PG/PC---- Point access(MicroWin) ------ Interfase (PC/PPI cable)--- now check properties, (ajust the same velocity 9.6 Kb, and then you can see in the other "windows" the interfase and put USB)

4. all is ready to use, i tell you ne thing, you don need change anything else, only with this checklist,that cable works.
