We are having some problem with the configurations of ower MP 277 iWlan. We have created a wifi net using the protocol 801.11a, and it works fine between the 2 PLCs (315F and 315) but the problem comes when I try to connect with my laptop. With my laptop I am not able to conect to a 801.11a wifi, I need at least an b,g or n protocol. We can change the configuration of our scalance, but we are not able to change the MP 277 iWlan. It only works with "a" conexion type.

Does anyone know if is possible to use the "b,g or n" conexion for an MP277 iwlan. We were suggested to use an "a" conexión to create a "safe" connection, but this way we can not connect with our laptops...

The IWLAN panel could work in a 802.11abg network depending on the futures you use. For example Safety combined with the Transponder means that you can only use IEEE 802.11a for your Wireless Communication. Even without the transponder this is the more secure/stable solution. Becausethe question is or you do really want to take the risk to get a communication error between the 'fixed' network and the Mobile Panel? This could happen when using 2,4 GHz networks because of much more device use this frequency, just look at your laptops.

Also another thing you need to consider is that if more devices are connected the same Wireless Network you share the bandwidth and the access time to the network. A Wireless Network is considered a shared medium where only one active communication can take place at the exact same time.

Do you use the Mobile Panel v2 or the Mobile Panel v2? If it's the v2 it could be that the panel uses Rapid Roaming (iPCF, iPCF-MC) then you can never connect to the same Wireless Network as the Mobile Panel.

Keeping all these things is mind the best solution would be using a Scalance W788-2PRO/W786-2PRO if you use a Mobile Panel v1 or a Scalance W788-2RR/W786-2RR if you use the Mobile Panel v2 with Rapid Roaming enabled. With a Scalance W78x-2 you can setup one dedicated network for your Mobile Panel using 802.11a and a second network using 802.11bg for the not mission/time critical laptops you want to connect to the system with.

The last situation is by far the best possible solution for a stable Wireless network for the panel.

Thank you very mucho for your advise. We reckon that we have the v2, we got it last month, so should be the latest version.

What would be perfect for us will be to use the protocol "a", but now a day, because of the laptop we need to use the protocol "b", "g" or "n". In future we will swap it to an "a" protocol (when we don't need any more the laptop).

Our doubt is that we don't know how to change the configuration in the MP277 iwlan to be able to operate with the "a" configuration. Could you please explain me step by step where and how do we have to change the configuration please?

As we have it now, we are able to see the wifi conexion, and we can connect to it, but as soon as we start the runtime, we are advised that the "safety is not enabled" and the conexion disappears...

We assume that this is not the most "safe" option, but it is a provisional solution untill the systems works correctly and we will not need to have connected a laptop.
