yes, the recipes from openembedded can be used. 

How to include them you can find in this post. 

Add the layers including your recipes needed via gitclone. Then add the cloned folders to the bblayers.conf. This two steps are described in the linked Readme for the Example Image layer.

To include the packages to the image to build open /recipes-core/images/core-image-minimal.bb on your building systems and add: 

IMAGE_INSTALL_append = "name_of_package"
