SIMOTION initiated TCP/IP connection using SIMOSIM

Ramson X Advanced Member Joined: 2/2/2015 Last visit: 10/14/2025 Posts: 8 Rating: (0)	I'm debugging a SIMOTION sw that communicate via TCP/IP with an external hardware but at the moment i cannot work on the real SIMOTION and the external TCP/IP device so i'm using SIMOSIM and a device simulator written by me in c#. All is running under a VmWare virtual machine. The device simulator program is listening on the address 169.254.163.170 port 2001 (seems to be the virtual card of SIMOSIM), the ST program tries to connect to this address and port but without success. I'm doing something wrong or SIMOSIM is not able to initiate a TCP/IP communication? The simosim configuration is working on address 169.254.11.22 and SCOUT is able to communicate with it. PS.: I'm using SCOUT TIA 5.3 SP1 HF4.

This allways run between different VM's. For TCP/IP Connection SIMOSIM advanced is needed. Downloadable on Siemens Support. Please note_ SIMOSIM advanced can started also with more than one instance. We also have tested SIMOSSIM advanced with TCP/IP communication with SIMIT.

I will be using SIMOSIM Advanced to complete my tests. You wrote "This always works between different VMs", how should I configure the VM network to allow SIMOSIM OPC_UA to exit the VM? Best Regards

Sure you can realize this also between other controllers... The Test was done before SIMOSIM Advanced was available. For This I added some information at the end of the document about multi-instance ...
