I have V16 TIA PORTAL.

I have PLCSIM and PLCSIM ADVANCED (though no virtual ethernet installed)

I have WinCC Unified and  programmed for HMI Comfort UNIFIED and PLC S7-1512C

I could not get the PLC and the HMI to communicate together during simulation.

simulation works fine with older HMI types i.e. Comfort and Basic HMIs.

any help would be appreciated.

Split from TIP: WinCC Unified and PLCSIM.

I am trying to use PLCSIM Advanced, however when I start PLCSIM Advanced and then try to run the PLC simulation by pressing the SIM icon on the main menu bar it seems that it tries to access PLCSIM rather than PLCSM Advanced as it gives me an error message that  I have to close PLCSIM Advanced first before I can load the program to PLCSIM???!!!. I did not find away to deactivate PLCSIM. That is why I start the SIM Advanced separately first, then I use the DOWNLOAD Icon from the TIA Main menu to download to the SIM Advanced which I think is happening successfully.as I can then simulate the PLC logic (ONLY) without any problem. The problem starts when I try to get the "MTP1000 HMI Comfort Unified" included in the simulation. When I push the SIM Icon from the TIA main menu while on the HMI portion of the project it tells me that "It cannot be downloaded to the Device"??!!. I have to stop SIM Advanced first before I can get the HMI to be downloaded to WINCC Unified. then I restart the PLCSIM Advanced and download the PLC logic to it but there is no communication between the two simulations (PLCSIM Advanced and WINCC Unified) which becomes clear when I push a button on the WINCC unified  side it is not sensed on the PLCSIM Advanced side.

I spent a lot of time trying to figure out what to do and I appreciate any help to get through this problem.

Hi,

in PLCSIM Advanced screen the virtual ethernet is not active, maybe some component is missing. I tried to activate it but I could not. Only PLCSIM button was active and selected.

maybe that is my main problem.

if that is the case how to activate it??

I downloaded WinCap 4.1.3 and the virtual Eth adapter has become active. I added the IP address of the PLC as configured in the TIA Portal V16 and assigned a subnet mask 255.255.255.0 and put FACTORYIO as the instance name. I started it and it found the PLC. Then I started TIA portal, downloaded (no SIM START) to the simulator. it worked fine.

Then I selected the HMI from the project tree, started SIM and it worked and WINCC Unified got activated automatically. The screen with my buttons was ON 

BUT

communication between PLCSIM Advanced and Wincc screen was still missing.

I will keep trying but in the mean time if there is a hint to speed me up it would be much appreciated.

I Think you would have to set the PG/PC Interface to the Virtual Ethernet Adapter to make the communication work.

I did set the Interface to Virtual Ethernet Adapter  when I downloaded the PLC logic into PLCSIM Advanced and the PLC logic is simulated nicely and smoothly..

I Have doubt about how to download the HMI unified to the WinCC simulator. This is where I need some help I think.

How do you establish a connection between a CPU S7-1500 simulated with S7-PLCSIM Advanced and a WinCC Unified Runtime?

Then Simulation of the Unified device can be loaded by pressing the simulation Button in the TIA Portal.

thanks to all for valuable hints.

earlier today I could achieve some progress towards proper communication between the two simulations i.e. PLCSIM Advanced and WinCC unified and I am now able to change an input field value in the PLC simulated logic to see its effect in the HMI comfort unified simulated screen. I am now able to proceed further with my project.

What I found was that I had to change a setting in the control panel "Set PG/PC Interface-Access point of the application S7online" to "SIEMENS PLCSIM VIRTUAL Ethernet Adapter". After I did that communication between the two simulations worked fine. before that the I/O fields on the simulated HMI screen were gray and no interaction was there at all between the PLC and the HMI simulations.

With regards to the remark that simulation can be started by activating the SIM icon on the TIA Portal:

I tried all that and the conclusion is: This is true only for the HMI unified simulation. However, for the PLC7-1500 if I select the SIM icon I get PLCSIM rather than PLCSIM advanced activated which is not good to work with WinCC unified. For the  PLC to be simulated using PLCSIM Advanced I had to avoid selecting the SIM Icon from the TIA panel and instead select DOWNLOAD TO DEVICE from the ONLINE drop drop down menu.
