Regarding switches, are not 100% correct. 

For a long period of time i was using to regular internet at my home a regular switch with4 ports to increase the signal of internet!!!!

"My internet signal was so week  and could not open the desktop network board. I just mount this switch  and was strong enough after to open network ." 

I know was not strong as a repeater, but was not keep the signals low.

I never tried to LOGO more than 10 - 20 m distance between, but  i do not see any impediment for switch  why not running

But keep in mind that a repeater, hub or switch reduces the bandwidth in the network.
