Dear all.

We have new challenges with our IT-department and they will more or less close SMB protocol or we need to upgrade to SMB 2.0 at least, they will also close the Wins for us and now we have the challenge to how do we solve this. We are using MP277 HMI and Comfort and soon some Unified panels, we are using WinCC Flexible and TIA V14, V16,V18. We are using Simatic-Logon 1.6 to our AD in the network and also the companys network to connect our printers in the factory. We also use file-sharing from our HMI to a server (Recipe-files and log-files)and we also doing all software modifications through our companys network, so it really complicated to all security and firewalls.

So my question is, is it possible to have SMB 2.0 to the HMI panels or is the 2.0 only available in the new ones?

Is it possible to not using Wins because now to have the Simatic-Logon working this must be enabled.

Is the new UMC for the Unified panels also using Wins?

Hi Peter,

Unfortunately, I can only answer some of your questions.

All Windows CE based devices only support SMB 1.0 and there are no plans to change this. Instead of using the outdated SMB 1.0 protocol, Siemens recommends using the HMI Option+ Manager.

Unified Comfort Panels require SMB 3.0 to connect a network drive.

Unfortunately, I can't provide much information on the requested topics WINS and SIMATIC Logon. However, there is a FAQ which states that SIMATIC Logon can be used with a fixed IP address instead of a domain name.

For UMC I couldn't find any information about WINS, so I assume that it is not used there.
