0_Einstein Grandmaster-Expert Joined: 7/7/2010 Last visit: 12/30/2025 Posts: 16338 Rating: (2520)	Do you want to use a Siemens SIWAREX WP231 module [part # 7MH49602AA01] (rather expensive but very thorough), or the way I do it using an external signal conditioner that provides 5V excitation and selected based on mV/V range of the strain gage? Both are rather expensive for accepting a weight signal. I'm sure there are profinet enabled strain gage amplifiers available, which could save routing a mV signal around where it could pick up noise even when proper cabling, termination, installation and routing techniques are used. I must supply 12 VDc to load cell. Can you suggest me an industrial signal conditioner? I'd like use a SM 1231 AI4 x HF 16 BIT, article number 6ES7 231-5ND32-0XB0 Load cell has the following specifications: Load Measurement Range 10 Kg Output at Rated Load 2mV/V Maximum Excitation Voltage 5 - 12 V dc Sensor Type Single Point My idea is to get reading of 1 gram. For 10 Kg to get 10000 grams. I think I need an amplifier. The reason is... INSTRUMENT OUTPUT VOLTAGE FOR 1 GRAM 10,000g -> 12V x 2mV/V 10,000g -> 24mV 1g -> (0.024/10,000)V 1g -> 2.4μV The smallest value a 16bit analog input card can measure is 45.2 μV when the full scale setting is ±1.25V.

In this amplifier you can sen analog output range, witch weight is 4mA (0V), which 20mA (10V). By this you can get very good resolution. One drawback is zeroing if something changes on the sensor over time. For this problem I use a bit wider weight settings for 4-20mA than I need normally. I zeroing scale weight on the PLC Or you can use amplifier with profinet output, there you will get amplifier dependent resolution BR Romas
