Is your motor encoder absolute, multiturn absolute or incremental?.

Is it direct on the ballscrew?.

Have you got reference switches at the end of the axis travel to be able to reference the encoder?.

will your machine be accurate enough using the encoder?.

The motor is directly connected to the screw shaft with a belt

There is no switch to reference the encoder. Is there a way to do this? Do we need to put a switch?

yes it would be sensitive enough

If you are using the encoder on the motor it it most likely to be a single turn absolute so you will need a switch at the end of the axis travel.

The switch has to be programmed in the plc. Have you got the step 7 programming package on a computer to change the plc?. You will also need to activate the motor encoder as main encoder from the plc.

If not you will have to employ an engineer to do this and they can reassign the encoder for you.

Your machine at best will only be as accurate as the ballscrew. If this was good enough then the manufacturer would not have fitted a scale!.

If you can change the plc program I can guide you in machine data changes but unless you can change the plc I don't want to waste my effort going through the procedure. I also assume you can already take a back up of the machine and know how to change machine data.
