Technology object for external encoder

ita2024 Posts: 2 Rating: (0)	Hi everyone, I'd like to read a position and speed data from SICK AFM60A encoder. I tried to add technology object for external encoder like in S7-1500 but in my project S7-1200 I don't have external encoder object to add. I need to save home position at the encoder too. Is it necessary to update TiaPortal or it's not possible to use this object with S7-1200? I use TiaPortal V18.

S7-1200: Application Examples for High-Speed Counters (HSC) User is using an encoder that links by Profinet communication.

Profinet devices use IOs to exchange data with a PLC therefore a TO is a nice-to-have feature but isn't a must. In general a manufacturer is to supply a GSDML file for a device and a manual describing that GSDML. There's also an example project on the manufacturer's site. Maybe it can shed some light.
