I have a huge problem and i'm hoping desperately that you can help me. We are trying to import a AutoCAD dwg file into Comos, so that we can change some parts of the P&ID inside Comos.

Since I have never done this, I'm trying to follow the manuals.

My steps are:

1: drag&drop the dwg file on an empty P&ID report

2: right-click -> dwg/dxf mapping editor

3: open -> "<COMOS installation directory>/config/DXF_Import.ini"

(now since I don't see any execute button here, I hope selecting the file was enough and i'm closing the mapping editor again)

4: go back to the P&ID and right-click -> "dissolving an AutoCAD object graphically"

5: Create graphic in document

..aaaand everything falls apart. I now always end up with a P&ID where some valves are placed more or less ok, some instruments are mushed together, and all texts have font size 200. So now I'm hoping you can help me with some advice what I can expect with this import or what I'm doing wrong.

we have some experience with this tool. As Jiri points out, it helps a lot if the symbols in the DWG file are drawn as blocks and used consistently. In that case, for each block you only have to assign a base object once. 

Both the DWG import and export are clearly not one of the priority features of COMOS. It is not working as well as most of the other functionality in COMOS. However, the import was useful for us on some occasions, but do expect that you will have to do quite some post-processing.

I was looking into the DWG/DXF mapping editor to test the export & import of DWG. The mapping editor is handy in defining what needs to be done to the DWG file we exported from COMOS.

We can define the fonts, height, layers, etc.

However, I found it somehow useless in terms of importing a DWG file to COMOS. I agree with Gizzzmo that after selecting the INI file, there was no option for the "execute" or "run" button. Thus, seems useless to do that step even though that is what is written in the docupack manual.

to use the mapping for importing dwg files you need to save it in an "ini"-file (in the mapping editor).

* Place the dwg in the object or document tree (copy seems to work best)

* Drag and drop the dokument on an interactive report (PID for example)

* Press right mouse button and dissolve graphically

* Afterwards you can choose the ini file here:

This is the way i know.

This worked for us in Comos 10.2.3 at least.

Nevertheless in the newer Comos the format of the mapping file is xml internally (earlier it was a simpler text format).

Neither old files created earlier (text format) or new ones (xml format) seem to work for me now in Comos 10.4.3.
