Is there a way to only send a modbus write command only when the value to it has been updated or when specified? I have a remote modbus unit that has a 100000 eeprom write limit so writing to it every cycle or 1s period will wear this down quickly.

Check if your Modbus instrument has the ability to only write to the E²PROM when given a command to do so. On some drives it is an "enter" command. Then the LOGO! can choose when that write process occurs. Or have the LOGO! be the memory.
