Dear Siemens Community,

We are using PCS 7 v7.1 and have configured Alarm Logging with backup enabled. The archive configuration segments alarms every 4 days or 1000 MB, with a total archive size limit of 1 month or 10000 MB.

We have also activated backup in the Backup Configuration tab, with the destination path set to D:\backup_alarms. The backup files are regularly created and stored there. Inside that folder, we see files with .mdf and .ldf extensions.

Now we need to restore or view past alarm data from these backups on the same PCS 7 system.

Our questions:

1. Is it possible to restore or view historical alarms using these backup files directly within PCS 7 / WinCC Alarm Logging?

2. If yes, how can we do that? Do we need to reattach the database files manually in SQL Server or through a specific tool in PCS 7?

3. If not, do we need to set up a second system or use a separate SQL Server instance to access archived data?
