If you have a IF155-6 with many IO cards installed and you want to generate a alarm in user program called "Common Fault RIO XXX". These alarm shall be generated if any fault is active on the rack, card itself error, channel.. etc.. etc.. if something is wrong..

Is Mode 2 correct to use then?

I have used Mode 5 for communication fault alarm.

2. With mode 4, can it be used to detect a disconnection of any already configured device?

1:  DeviceStates can be used with any Profinet / Profibus device.

2: have you read the F1 online help on DeviceStates? It states that with mode 4, you can if a slave exists.
