I can use Netpro to place two S7-300 stations and to make network through MPI interface. Is there any need to set up "partner addresses"? Thanks for help

Hi Pandiani, It is very simpel, go to the project in the manager, make all the CPUs that are necessary in the project and couple them in the Hardware Configuration or in Netpro together. Now go back to the Simatic Manager and click on the MPI-network with the right mouse, then choose for global communication. A new screen wil open and there you have the possibility to choose all the CPUs on top of the list, this is a little bit odd, but when you have done it once, it is no big problem to get all the CPUs in the list. Then you may choose which data is gone from one CPU and to which CPUs this data is transfered. So you have one sender and when you want more receivers. By typing for example MW10 (I will keep the same variables in the other CPUs, thats easier to follow the communication) and then by all other CPUs also MW10 (or one when you don't want to copy it to them all). After that you may choose which is te sender. When you want to do some bytes from a datablock, the notation is a little bit strange, I think that is because this communication type is from the last age [:D]. This is (don't shoot me when Iám wrong) DB10.DBB10:10 when you want to transfer 10 byte from DB10.DBB10 to another CPU.

I only have on S7-315 2 DP CPU, but want to learn how to make simple MPI network with two PLCs because probably I'll need to do it soon. In empty S7 project i have created two S7-300 stations, I have networked them together in MPi network and named them s7300-1 and s7300-2. s7300-1 has MPI address 2 and s7-300-2 has MPI address 3. Now i went to Simatic manager, click on MPI (right button) and chose Define global data. A GD table opened and I have entered CPUs and variables in table. Something like this: 1st row: GD ID is GD 1.1.1, S7300-1\CPU315-2 DP is >MW10 (sender) s7-300-2\CPU315-2 DP is MW10 (receiver) After that I clicked on compile and everything passed OK. In OB1 of s7300-1 I have defined OB1 as one move instruction that transfer integer 1000 to address MW10. To test it I have only PLCsim and one hardware cpu (which is not much of use in this application) Now I have the following questions: 1. I can download blocks of s7300-1 to PLCSIM without problem. Why I cant download blocks to s7-300-2? I'm getting error message no other active partner found. I suspect this is because PLCSIM can handle only one CPU and when trying to download program to other CPU it checks and seeks where is sender, since sender is gone error is generated. Can you confirm this? 2. How would I download programs to hardware PLCs? I assume I use MPI cable to connect PG to s7300-1 then download, connect MPI cable to connect PG to other PLC (s7300-2) then download and then use MPI cable to connect two plcs through MPI connectors. However here I see problem. How to download to other PLC when MPI must be free to connect PG and there is no active partner in that time?

Wizard Diamond Expert Joined: 4/24/2006 Last visit: 12/24/2025 Posts: 9097 Rating: (1202)	Hello Pandiani, Answers to your questions: 1) Yes it's only possible to simulate one PLC with PLCSIM 2) You can use Profibus cable and Profibus connectors to configure a MPI network. When you use a connector with PG-connection, it's possible to communicate between the CPU's and use PG to download to both CPU's. You only have to enter the right MPI adress to download the programm. Does that mean to connect both CPU-s with MPI cable and one CPU to PG at the same time?. I suppose I'll need a special MPI connector. Probably that means I just set MPI address to 3 (after downloading to first CPU with address 2) and program is downloaded to other CPU, right? I also assume that after download program to the first CPU, it must stay online or in run mode in order to be able to download program to other CPU (because of GD table). Am I right here? Thanks again

So you cann't use the MPI cable. You'll have to use Profibus Cable and two connectors. One should with a PG-connection, so you can connect your PC at the back off the connector. You download first programm to CPU (MPI - 2) then you download programm to CPU (MPI - 3) Hope this will help. Best regards, Wizard

If we define the same memory area for sender and receive, for example, MW10 when I do the follow command in OB1 block: L 1000 T MW10 The constant 1000 will be transfer to MW10 of S7300-1 or S7300-2 ?? If it was transferred to S7300-2, how command must I use to transfer to S7300-1 ? Sorry the question, but I'm new in PLC Siemens. Best regards, Survive

Please use L MW10 (in the S7300-2) and use that directly for what you want to do with it.... [;)]

Aret Posts: 2348 Rating: (265)	You can also make PROFIBUS network with 3 connectors on it. 1 for PG, 2 for s7-300(1), 3 for s7-300(2). That would be better if PG is constantly connected to PLCs. Please ensure, that terminal resistors on 1 & 3 connectors set to "on", and on 2 it's "off".
