DC drive Continuous oscillation between 1st and 4th quadrant

Vibha Posts: 12 Rating: (0)	Simodrive 6RA7085-6DV6Z-Z (420V, 600A DC output)is being used to run 102KW, 220V DC, 510A, 500rpm Dc motor, which in turn runs an oscillating load of crank shaft. The drive operating mode fluctuates continuously between 1st and 4th quadrant modes with each stroke. Is it harmful for drive to run like this, willwe able to run it safely for10-15 years?

Vibha Posts: 12 Rating: (0)	Hello. I am attaching the graphs taken from drive monitor. The graph (1-auto100c-min pos stop.wmf) conditions are: motor halting position at 30% reduced speed. The graph (1-auto100c-min.wmf) is taken in conditions: motor in acceleration upto 100 double strokes, Brake at 30 double strokes(reduced speed), ideal tuning of position, speed and current. GDC Posts: 8 Rating: (0)	Hi Vibha, Looking at the graphs you sent the drive does not go at the high currents. However the current is actually oscillating from +20 to -10% only. This is not a cause of concern. But whoever did the commissioning did not do a perfect job. At the 20% setpoint you are looking at the speed actual value fluctuation. the current/ torque direction is responding to these changes. If you have time you can try tuning the speed controller. That should take care of the problem you are seeing. With the non-symmetrical loads if the speed loop was optimized in automatic mode you can see these issues. You sure have the issue with the speed controller but this will cause the noise iduring the operationand if you have the main power supply spikes then this drive may blow fuses in the event of 4th qudrent operation ( as it goes there every 2 seconds) I hope this helps you.
