DC motor position control

I have an incremental encoder (I can chose the correct one) and a DC motor with an easy drive (velocity control) with an analog input to change the motor speed. What I want to do is: 1) push one start button 2) the motor begins to run with an acceleration ramp 3) after a set number of turns the motor begins to decelerate 4) the motor stops in the final position Can help me someone? Oliver Gonzalez Posts: 27 Rating: (0)	Motion control is quite difficult to do with a Logo since there is need to perform lots of mathematical calculation. A cuadrature encoder will be quite difficult to be used with logo, since not only you have to read the frecuany of the pulses but the phase between the A and B signal to know if you must count up or down. One easy way to do position control would be to have an analog signal for the position, using a resistance position sensor or so. I have also seen some basic positioning systems that use a multiturn potentiometer in the gear-reduction axis. Each turn of the axis will translate to a linear position, thus there will be an analog voltage value for every position. If it is a real application, you should begin to consider another fact: accuracy and repetibility. So better move to a S7-1200, because all this is solved with available functions for motion control

archimede Posts: 2 Rating: (0)	Thank you! Is not so important the accuracy and repetibility but I can't use a potentiometer or something like that. I can use an TTL encoder with only phase A and B with low resolution like 100 or 200 ppr. This encoder will touch with a free wheel the ground and the motor moves the machine with an another wheel. When I push the start button, for instance, I want the machine moves to the right 10 inches which could be up to 10,5 rev encoder. And the same to the left with another button. If is not absolutely necessary I would not use a more complicated plc. Bye

It's possible to read encoders with low frequency pulses by a Logo. So if you don't want to use equipment that is better suited for this task as sugested above, give it a try. Regards, Marcjan
